What Did You Do In The Garage Today?

I had to look at this one twice before I realized that it isn't four crude wooden replicas of wrenches laying on a flat black surface.

All I did in the garage today was watch a guy replace the broken spring on my garage door. (Those things make some noise when they let go!) I could have done it myself, but I wanted it done today.

haha
I will mess with it more tonight, its tedious as heck, so it's slow going
But Ill be stoked when it's done

@HMP What are you using to cut the foam?

Im using a razor blade and xacto knife. The razor blade I can pull and in two cuts get most of the wrench done, but then up around the open end I have to get the xacto which is time consuming.

This isnt perfect by any means, but Im looking forward to being done and having it implemented.
Im done with SAE wrenches, and 3/7 completed of the metric, but I already did the long cuts, so not too much more tomorrow and it'll be put in the drawer.

I'll also make labels to go IN the slots

OH, also in the garage today, I put the dash trim pieces back on the car, 'installed' the ashtray (which these ashtrays break the lids easily and getting a used one will run you 60+ bucks, new is over a hundred! So Im glad to that a functioning one!

Then I installed the gas cartridge engine lid support.

I'll be posting some pics in my MR2 build thread in a few minutes

I'd love to do this with my box but my tool inventory is constantly changing and I'm not sure I have the patience. Nothing looks more slick than a shadowed tool box.

Im always adding tools, but things like wrenches I dont add much of, so Im taking a leap here

Last night I finished cutting all the holes out. Made some labels and here is the finished result.
It's not perfect, but Im pleased and I went from taking up 2 drawers to 1.

Also, the other day I was looking for a nut driver and couldnt find one. Could have sworn I had some, but no luck.
Well, then I did find them...the next day.
So I thought I should get them to a prominent place and organized as well.
Simple little 10 minute project. Took a piece of scrap wood I had gotten from my father (he's in the furniture business and, best I can tell, this was part of a seat in a chair - not sure of wood type, but it's pretty hard) and drilled some 5/16" holes

Organized and left plenty of room to add to

Ive done a similar thing or two with drill bits.

I hung a little shelf off the tube on the drill press for my most used Forster bits.
And. In my Drill Cabinet a couple more for step drills and counter sinks.
Very handy to see them all.

I've found magnets very helpful in keeping all the smalls in one spot too.
Or for special sets and what nots.

Whoops.... For got to add.
I did this today in the garage..... Dug out the gauges and some 410A.

The master mini split has a dadgum leak..
I put about a pound and a half a couple years ago when the coil started icing up. Checked all the connection then, but it started to ice up again. I'll have to go back and re check for leaks .

Went to HF and spent 60 on toolbox organization, specifically sockets (plus this other piece which will be returned.

I got it all sorted and they now resided in one of two drawers. I felt good about it. I'll post pics tomorrow probably.
Now to another drawer!
By the end of this I hope I go from stuff in every drawer to at least three empty...for now lol

Got my bagger on my mower, did some mowing. my sinuses are not happy.
Also ran a mag through that suppressed 10.5" ar pistol to test out the new h2 buffer and spring. I was having enough fun that i forgot to test if it still works fine without the suppressor. Tomorrow I might get the RTV out of my tool box and try to make this thing spit in my eye a little less.

What did you end up getting?

Now that I've got the garage cleaned out, I'll be getting a new tool box and have some OCD issues about organization.

Here are my pictures. First is the bottom/'main' drawer, I keep all the 6 point sockets here, I prefer 6 point.
The second is the 8 and 12 pointers

So I got two different things from them
The first will be seen in the first picture, its shallow trays (there are feet you can use to raise it) with holes. These were 14 each. I only used one (there are 6 pieces per box, three for SAE, three for Metric)

The other things I got were the peg kind
These were 10 each (each package, three pieces per package - 1/4, 3/8, 1/2), used both metric and sae for this.
Now, one of these I ended up putting on my scroll saw and cutting it down due to size - it wouldnt fit so I just cut it and TETRIS'd it into the drawer.
It's not perfect, but Im much more pleased.

After a long day of essential work, as far as I am concerned not the governor because I need to eat, I changed the oil in My truck. Made a mess on the floor too

Passenger door panel off.
Try to locate the door lock code so I can have new keys cut
also
Try to fix the wiring to the front passenger speaker, common issue for the wires to break over time with the door opening and closing so much etc

I absolutely detest taking the inner door panels off my 300ZX, such a tedious process.

But... gonna have to do it again as the PLASTIC linkage on my door lock key actuator arm broke... effing Nissan.

Tonight I got the door handle off so I could access the lock code. FINALLY found it. Pain in the butt process.
BUT tomorrow I will, likely, ride up and get keys cut!

Not to take away from the ones @HMP posted above as they work well as well but here is another brand or option i would recommend looking at if you want portable. They offer the trays or individual rails and addtional clips all independabtly if you need. I ended up with these after having some of the others and being frustrated some sockets wouldnt fit the pins or my socket set didnt match up to holder number of sockets and having extras of others and many torx and allen head sockets as well. I also like to take the whole set with me at times depending project location so that was a added bonus. Both styles have there pros and cons but I have been much happier since atleast getting them all organized and easy to tell if something is missing.

I have several of the strips. Some cheap from HF, which I DONT like, and some Husky branded ones I picked up on clearance at HD that I DO like...but I just wasnt pleased with that style.

Like you said, pros and cons to it all/to all the styles.

I went with the trays because I like being able to see the numbers/labels, but your option (with the three in one and with handle etc) is def a good one for those that need it to be more mobile

Got two Toyota keys cut at the dealership.

Put the door handle back on the car.

Started pulling some speaker harness out of the door, but im sort of at a point where Im struggling how to get this little boot thing out. More tinkering tonight.

Washed the Optima, put new brake pads, rotors, and a new battery in the Civic.

I made a couple of little storage racks for some T handle allen wrenches today. I used the Kern at work to laser cut some 1/4" birch and glued it together.

At home I cleaned out the metal tray and did a good wipe down on my lathe. I mixed some coolant and filled the reservoir for flood cooling. I'll give that a shot this weekend on something...
All clean for now!

I did a laser cut honeycomb pattern 1/4" bit holder a while back for the bit drawer in my toolbox. I need to do more stuff like @HMP for my other stuff.
Edit: Here's the bit holder.

Welp you made my work look like a joke lol

That is seriously awesome dude, that T handle wrench set is super sick

I want a screwdriver block like the oak ones that Brownells has listed at $75. I'll have to do mine out of laminated 1/4" birch. lol. Maybe I can get it done with this recent slowdown in jobs.

@Jeffncs inspired me to get out and do some more dismantling of my cj7. Got the column, steering shaft, dash, controls, and interior wiring harness out. Will hold onto some of the old stuff to make sure I didn't need any of it to make new or rebuilt stuff work. I think about 20 more years and I will be done at this rate.

Great way to spend Saturday!!! Let me know if you need and small parts. I have a box of stuff that’s free game. Nothing exceptional, but the price would be right!! (free)

Thank you. I might need to pick your brain as this goes on. I hope it will look half as good as yours.

Had check engine light come on last week on my '99 Sable, found a broken vacuum line near the firewall that feeds the EVAP system.

i have a couple manuals that I also reference occasionally. I can always send pics of needed pages as needed.

Thank you very much! I definitely want to get some info on the wrangler roll bar swap. First I need to get a new chassis and a new body to have something to bolt the bar to.

I don't have a garage..............:(:(:(:(

But, you guys are way to organized. You're supposed to throw all your bits, wrenches and stuff in a big box so when you actually find what you're looking for it will feel like you've found treasure.

I'll post a picture of my garage, it's chaos in there.

Had some time to kill after lawn work. Decided to get my next project off the paper.

Cut the stock and started to work. Some welds are good, some needed lots of clean up. Bottom line is they are solid (I think ).

Not quite done. I'll post the final product. Yes, there's splatter but since I don't get paid to weld, I'll live with it (till I get better).

In an attempt to organize, I'be been moving things around. It's amazing the things you find that you completely forget you have. My entire shop looks like a tornado went through it right now. You would be proud lol.

Bought a John Deere LA145 back from my sister in-law. Needs some TLC. I can do basic stuff (oil change, belt change, plugs, etc). Decided to try adjusting the valves (with my brothers help since he has done it before). Figured why not try it at least. Other parts coming in this week (vacuum hose, wheel bearings to replace the bushings, starter as the old one drags some). I changed the steering sector and pinion as well as installed the two lower steering bushings. Upper one should be in this week. Painted the deck. Installed new blades. Air filter for this model (and several others) is on clearance at Lowes for $5.80 for those who need it.

They also have this one on clearance for $4:

Ordered the parts to do the poor mans power steering to it.

Also my local Lowes had a Craftsman 5,000 watt generator on clearance last week. Regular price $649. Marked down to $600. Went to pick up the air filters for the lawn mower I ordered online. Price was dropped to $300. I asked the manager on duty if she would do a little better on it. Picked it up for $200. This model:
