What did you do in the reloading room today?

What a time consuming task rifle prep is. I don't load for 2 and 3 gun for this reason. All this is LC brass to be used in a SPR build I recently put together. Even went through the trouble of uniforming flash holes. Whether it makes a difference or not we will see but I figured I only have to do it once per piece of brass so might as well. Plus it will keep me from wondering "what if" when I get a flier.

Loaded 300 rounds of 9mm. Wet tumbled some brass. Hand-primed 10 38 spl cases before I realized they hadn't been sized yet, lol!

Cleaned. Shipping boxes and packaging had overwhelmed my space, but honestly if I hadn't lost a piece for my case feeder it wouldn't have happened, piece still at large.

Switched press over to 9mm. Sized a few hundred bullets. Wet tumbled a few hundred cases.

IMG_9769.JPG IMG_9770.JPG Made a stand for my old Rock Chucker awhile back. Don't know if I shared pics or not. One of these years I'll get around to loading my first rounds....

And yeah, that RCBS green is hard to match.

What did I do in the reloading room today? Shivered as it is in my unheated uninsulated garage. Should have bought a portable heat pump instead of a portable air conditioner.

Been doing much the same so I fired up the lee lead pot and it heated the area up just fine until I fluxed with sawdust. Then opened the garage door for venting and 20 degree air rushed in....

Still managed to get around 300 good cast .358 154gr SWCs out of my ol Lyman 4 cav 358477. Man i love that mold!

You are welcome to come over and hang out at my climate controlled shack. :p

Just made a path out to the load shed and turned the heat up. Once it hits 60 (keep it at 40) I will go load some 45 acp. I am already over this snow crap

I have a friend that is going crazy shooting. Buying a couple of guns and his father has a nice collection that is being passed down to him. He found out that I reload for every caliber that he has and asked that I teach him. Today we loaded 100 223s even though he does not own a 223 yet. He ordered 200 30-30, 45 ACP and 38 cases. Also, the bullets to go along with them. Now looking for some 308 brass and bullets.

The question that I have is do you teach him the reloading process then teach him how to set up the dies. At the present time, he will be using my equipment.

Played with fire. Absolutely love this machine.

I show people the big picture first, have them deprime a few thousand crimped .mil brass cases and then ask em if theyre still interested because thats what theyll be doing alot of

Teach him the reloading process. Then, if he wants more, teach the die set-up procedure. No sense in wasting time with the time-consuming issues if he won't go there in the end. JMHO.

Last I loaded were too long as well. Cost me big time Saturday. I just got some 115 gr Blues to try in mine.
I am able to get the 115s to run at 1.100 oal. However I did get the once in a while round stick in the chamber at show clear. Thinking the sharper angle of the truncated will help.

I don't shoot competition, but I have had good luck with the RMR 115 fmj bullets in my 9mm carbine. Have you tried any of those? My carbine has a tight chamber, I seat those to 1.100".

My issues actually weren’t related to a tight chamber. It was more about it not wanting to feed the rounds that I had loaded that were around 1.15. I think it’s going to want them around 1.10.

Primed and loaded another 100 rounds of 45. I used RMR 230 gr. (there version of TMJ rn) I decided to weigh some of the bullets. They varied in weight from 229.2 to 230.8 I was some what surprised at this. I was wondering if anyone else uses these. I have used Hornady 230gr in the past and have weighed these and very seldom do I find one that is off. It does not matter to me much since I just use them to shoot at paper, but I do try to load for accuracy.

I think you will find, that unless you are spending $$$ like you do for the Hornadys, you can pretty much expect the weight variations you mentioned or at least I have.

But, with that it mind, what you described is really not that great of a weight variation., about 8 thousands of a grain in my math is correct.

1.6gr, given how much variance (+/- 3gr) cast bullets have and the accuracy they can dish up I wouldn't sweat it.

If I recall correctly that isn't a whole lot more variance than what I would find in a box of 168gr Amaxs percentage wise it's probably about equal, I gave up sorting and they still put five in 0.6" or so at 100 pretty regular.

Got bored later this afternoon (wife watching Hallmark channel) so went back out to the load shed and loaded up 100 rounds of 45 using Summers LRN 230gr and Bullseye powder. Normally use Win 231 so I am interested to see how they do.

Haven't reloaded anything in a while, got motivated today to make up some 9mm test loads. Found some random 115gr JHPs in a box, some random headstamp brass, CCI500s and some HP38 dated 1993. If it wasn't such a long ride out to the range I would go test 'em out, but for now I'll just have to wait and prep some brass.

Rolled 100 Lee 452 200gr SWCs and 100 PC'd Lee 452 230 truncated cones over 4.0gr of Bullseye.

Well below book min for both but functioned the 1911 just fine, not terrible accuracy either, under 4" @ 20yds.

Gotta get the darn SWCs to feed 100% now. Seems this 1911 wants a different OAL than my other.

Been reorganizing the basement and clearing a path to the reloading bench. Opened the safe to make sure no rust snuck in and fortunately it had not.

I need to find another 147 gr 9mm source as i am out of zombies, sadly it has been a while since I pulled the press handle. On the upside i will soon have a kegerator in the basement as well .
