What did you do in the reloading room today?

Finally finally finally got a couple working loads with 8208. I’d been playing by the data book but I just had to work up and go higher than max (safely), and still showing no extractor swipes or primer cratering etc. Also got my Barnes 62gr TTSX load worked out...probably going to be my new hunting round for my ARs

Changed my tumbling media so I don’t have to tumble for 4 hours and still have dirty brass (even with a lemishine pretreat) and got a ton of brass cleaned up that I’d shot over the last month

Was this with the 8208 or something else?
I played with them a few years back and got some 1.5" or so groups at 100yds that went bad (5"+) with many far greater by 200, this was out of a 16" 1:9, best I could figure was they were on the very edge of stabilized. I abandoned them due to cost and where I lived, but here in the South and having some faster twist rifles now I've been kicking around a second attempt.

I bought a box of 50 and started from scratch because there’s not a lot of info out there about people shooting them. They are very long, but light for their length which makes it a little peculiar for normal load data

I was using Reloder 15 with these. Hit a node between 24.1 and 24.4gr and settled on 24.4gr:

The rest were like you said, around 1- 1.5” @ 100yds. I found that these definitely don’t perform as well as SMKs which sucks because load testing these is NOT cheap at all.

I was shooting them from a suppressed 16” rifle with 1:7.5” twist.

Watched the snow fall through my "man cave" (aka "the hole") window while loading up a batch of 45 Colt cowboy loads (Trail Boss & Badman Bullets). That's what I call a good day. :)

Nothing attempting to change wheel bearing hub assembly on my 2003 avalanche z71 so far both thumbs smashed 3 trips back to town for parts/ tools started out good then found somewhere before I bought it someone stripped out the Torx t55 bolt on the brake caliper. and that the bolts holding the hub were partially stripped rusted in all bolts out need to get a Axle puller tomorrow when I go to get the bolts I ordered.

Loaded up some more test rounds in 10mm, using BE-86, BlueDot, and AA#9. I loaded about 30 rounds with each powder, with charges that looked good during initial testing. Will compare them with each other and see which I like best.

My first exposure to Red Dot tonight. I loaded up a few 45 Colt SWC Badman Bullets using Red Dot. I didn't try to meter it as I was only loading a few for testing. But, hey, it's reloading. :D

Case prep for bottleneck rifle is the one part of reloading I don't particularly care for. But, ya wants ta play, ya gots ta pay.
Don’t I know it. Got through 120 last night. 100 more to go, before deburr/chamfering. I think I’m gonna make a gauge I saw on AccurateShooter to determine what my true max length is for the chamber. Maybe i can put this off for a few more firings.

been working on some 7.62x51 brass that I fell into, already resized, swaged and 'cleaned'. A quick trim and another trip thru the tumbler and they're GTG.

Hi Guys,
Waiting for the Duke game to come on TV I loaded up a few 45 Colt test rounds using Trail Boss, Titegroup, Red Dot, and Unique powders in lots of six each. All were loaded under Acme's 200 grain coated RNFP bullets using Lyman's load data. Loads of fun! ;)

Load 30 rounds of 45-70.
32.0 grns of Shooters World Buffalo Rifle under a 405 grn Missouri Coated SWC.

Prepped about 70 45 ACP cases

Too true. You can pay the big money (Giraud power trimmers, the Accuracy One or 21st Century concentricity gauges, 21st Century now has a powered neck turning lathe, the Dillon Swage 600, and lets not forget the AMP annealing machine) and speed it up significantly, but it doesn't make it any more pleasurable. At least that is what I am told, but I reserve the right to form my own opinion.

Ran 2,000 pieces of 9mm brass through the roll sizer then converted it to 45 and figured out that I’ve lost a part, damn.

I managed to have my finger on top of the case when de-priming so the de-priming pin managed to make all the way into my bone, or at least it feels like it went into bone.(Insert as many cuss words as you know here)

Maybe not to the bone, but hurt like hell. This photo was about 2 weeks after.

Yep, that's ugly..

I managed to get mine on the first knuckle so there is just a small hole there, hard to bend the finger right now.

Ouch! o_O

Dead center too. You are going to get to wear that one for a while. Hope there were no women or small children on the block when you did that one.
Oh, it is long gone. If there were women or children around, they weren't around for long.

Loaded up 100 rounds of 45acp with Win 231 5.3gr and 230gr LRN.

Deprimed and sized 1200 9mm with a lee hand press. I have been having shoulder/back issues for a while now. When I finished I ordered a single stage press, I don’t think I can do the hand press anymore for bulk. My issue now will be to find a way to mount it to something as I don’t have a workbench or shop.

Dining room table seems to be a popular location. Other folks do well with a small shelf bolted into a closet.

Don’t think the wife would let me use the dining room table and believe it or not we have exactly two closets in the whole house, and they’re already full.
I have use a lee load all shotgun loader bolted to a board then clamped to the counter. However, I almost took out the counter trim last time. Still searching. I may try clamping to the end of my computer desk and see how well that holds up.

Loaded the last 500 of my Xtreme 124 round nose. I completely ran out of bullets. I thought I had more put up, but nope, nada. So I just ordered some stuff from Rocky Mountain reloading. First time buying from them. Price was good, and free shipping.

Nice looking plans. If you’re willing to spend money to save time and weight you can look at an inline fabrication mount, just bolt it down to a board and clamp that to whatever you have.

I have seen a pic of a press mounted to a wooden stool. Not ideal, but if you’re just loading 9mm maybe.

Tonight I decided that nobody else was going to want to pull down 450 500s&w mag cartridges so I did it. Not my favorite way to unload cartridges!

I'm still a rookie reloader so educate / enlighten me please JimB, why would you do that?

Cause a good man died.

Longer version is that a neighbor who shot and reloaded that caliber passed away and when I bought all of his reloading “stuff” in one shot I got a big pile of his reloads. While he was a very conscientious reloader, and meticulous in all things, I generally don’t shoot anyone else’s reloads. I’ll store the primed brass and pulled bullets until I want to load them myself.

I see.

Sorry about your friend / neighbor.

Thanks for explaining. I understand about loading your own but I did not understand that you were talking about reloads at first. Thanks again...

Elmer

Sorry for your friend.

This is why I don't keep large amounts of reloads in any one caliber. Components are a lot easier to deal with than reloaded ammo in a situation like this.

Will you save the powder from these pulls? It is hard to look at powder and identify it with 100% certainty.
