...cast iron? đź’©
I watched a cast iron care vid a coupla years ago and the guy was not very big on using paper towels for wiping up after cooking with cast.
He said it was like wiping it with hair or some such and to be sure the paper towels leave some residue on the rougher pans I use.
So what's your preference to use for wiping out yer cast iron? 🤠

Kinda off topic but I watched the finish get cooked off the bottom of two pans this morning…. @Lil D

Intentional like? As in the periodic cleaning in the oven?

I'd be up for some upkeep info as well.
I have a bugger of a time with my not-so-often used pans gettin rust spots.

After I clean my fry pans my Aunt Inez, of Live Oak Florida’s, told me to get the pan warm agin a wipe a paper towel dipped in Crisco until all shiny and smooth. She told me it had to be good and warm because the pores of the metal were open. They never rust.

Inez was 6’1” and weighed at least 250.

Inez talked - I listened!

I have some of my grandparents cast iron along with items I’ve added over the years.
When I get my pans really dirty, I use dawn dish soap and warm water. Rinse well put in oven until they are dry and warm, turn over off and use paper towel with some type of clean oil or crisco - wipe down and return to oven. Close the door and walk away

i buy a bag of the lint free cotton clothes. I use them until they are a mess. Then I soak them in a sink with dish detergent to remove most of the oil. When I have a healthy stash I run them through the washing machine and use again. Paper towels work ok, but sometimes leave small pieces on a pan. They also don’t seem to absorb as much if the oil as cotton. So it make take a few extra passes to get it right.

I season and treat mine with Lard, I wipe down with a small towel, i have a pile of them. Paper towels sometimes leave bits behind.
