For my first hunt, I think I decided I want a coyote. I dont have any "hunting rifles" but I know a 308 or a 762x39 will take one down. I already got the approval by the wife for it to get mounted. If I remember correctly, she said "If you kill a coyote, we will get it mounted." Thought provoking thoughts? Just spit ballin' here.

.223 is an excellent coyote round. .308 is massive overkill. Also, if you want it mounted or kept in any way, it's better to use a smaller bullet that won't leave a big hole to sew up.

I kinda figured that, even 762x39 is kinda big I would think. I'd have to find a good 223 bolt gun I'd say.

Get your hunting license for Big Game (if you're NC), grab the game lands endorsement and go sit out in your nearest state or federal forest. BUT WAIT UNTIL DEER FIREARM SEASON OPENS IN YOUR AREA.

Wait until you see a trash dog (coyote) walk by and shoot it.
I took hunters Ed to get my license, just never got it.

It would have to be a spectacular and interesting specimen for me to spend the money for a mount.

.17HMR in the neck.
