Seen this guy while playing golf. When I got a little close it looked like he flattened out its head a bit.... almost cobra like. Is this a Hog-nose snake? Never seen one this color before.

Yep, Cool Hognose, one of the most interesting patterns I have seen. I had one caught at Hilton Head that was Melanistic. Could barely make out a pattern on it. They seemed to be rare when I was a kid in Guilford County, but where I live now in NW Rockingham, I will find a couple a year. Had one in my basement a couple years ago that scared the snot out of me when he blew up and hissed!

Hognose snake. They can flatten their heads and will act like scary a cobra, but they're probably the most harmless snake you'll ever come across. You'd be hard pressed to make one bite you, even if you picked it up. I recommend against that, since it will spray you with snake poop if you do pick it up.

I thought it was by the way he acted. Just got close enough to take a pic and went on my merry way. lol

Thanks guys!
