Looking at getting into some pistol matches, slowly.. was just wondering at such close distances, does the ammo type matter?
Or are some types (steel) not allowed?

When I've shot at steel, i cant tell a difference in the wolf or other cheap brass cased stuff. All hits on target if I do my part.

Steel ammo on steel targets will give some splash back. Kinda stings at close range.

I'm a newbie so I shoot whatever I can find that is the cheapest. Only thing I won't buy again is the Winchester steel case stuff at Walmart. I'll buy anything else that's cheap.i believe the longest distance in IDPA is about 60 ft. If I was to guess the average distance would be 30-40 feet and in.

We were going back and forth between wolf and PMC yesterday at close to 50 foot, couldnt tell a difference.

Cool deal though, wasnt sure if you could shoot wolf. It's always ran fine for me.
I'm sure there's probably some range with some rule, but I haven't run into any that care about pistol ammo.

Personally I reload.

0.17 a round pre tax is knocking on a good deal for sure.

Minuteman Munitions has reman for fractions of a cent less no chasing sales, shot with a guy spoke highly of it, made in GBO.
Outdoor Limited usually sells Minuteman a bit cheaper than buying it directly.

17 cents delivered is pretty strong. The only issue is that Academy's packing crew doesn't seem terribly attentive. I bought a few of those buckets and received a box full of loose ammo with a trail of rounds from my front door to where the courier had parked.
Says available in stores, if one is in reasonable distance.

Freedom Munitions. Just give yourself a couple of weeks because they ship slow, and across the country, but ammo is gtg and price is usually about as good as you'll find for any other brass cased, usually better.

In my experience, just as Mike said, if you don’t reload just use whatever is cheap and reliable. I’ve used Tulammo, Wolf, reloads, all sorts of stuff. Most targets are close enough the accuracy differences will be minimal.

Honestly you’re gonna have a hard time beating wal mart prices. You can get. 1K rounds of the USA Winchester steel for cheaper than anywhere I’ve seen online.

I don’t know if academy does it in NC, but here, if you show them proof of a cheaper price anywhere in TX, then they will beat it by 5%.

Outdoor Limited now has Wolf and Tula for as low as .14 per round.

Even with shipping that puts it around what the Winchester Forged stuff from Walmart is.

As a slight aside, Winchester Forged is the only ammunition I’ve bought and tried that I absolutely hated. It was dirty, not just after the shooting, but the bullets were covered in a fine black powder. I don’t care about dirty hands and guns after shooting. But dang to be covered in black soot before the fun even begins was just annoying. So, unless the Forged stuff ever gets to around .10 per round I’ll pay the extra for quality Wolf or Tula. (The last sentence has never been written before)
, so I am unique today.)
