My family and I are in Raleigh for the weekend to catch a couple Hurricanes games and we have all day tomorrow before the 7PM game.

What is there to do in the area that may be fun for the family and isn’t ridiculously expensive?

Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah...and find a Char-Grill to eat lunch.

Zero. Just nothing. Really.

Ok, maybe the Pit for ‘cue. And some other food you could find in 300 other cities. But really there is no big deal here. Have a drink and chill. It’s Raleigh. There is nothing here. Zero.

Ha, so a low end burger grill is your recommendation? That says it all. Weak.
It’s all about the paper tickets.

Unfortunately, the only one near me (it’s in Davidson, NC) just uses registers and cashiers, with the story of the ticket on the back of the menu. :(

Depending on the age of the kids, Marbles Kids Museum can be fun.
x2 on Marbles for the kids, and there is enough there that the adults won’t get bored hanging with the kids

Also check out Pullen Park if the weather is nice. Playground, plus train ride and big enclosed restored historic carousel. Park is free. have to buy tickets for train and carousel, but they are cheap, like $1.50.

we just did both of these on New Year’s Eve when my father in law came to visit. My girls (9 and 11) had fun.

there is also an imax theatre at Marbles if your timing matches a show and you’re interested in what’s playing.

You post this super helpful suggestion then call BW's post weak???
Apparently, you were very bored at 11:26 last night.
OP, sorry I have no suggestions but I am interested in the responses because I'll be in Raleigh next weekend and don't know anything about the "things to do" either.

There's also an ice skating rink in Cary off of Buck Jones Rd., if I remember correctly.

It's loud and smelly, but Rush Hour Karting in Garner (?) is an absolute blast.

Thank you all for the responses. We may check out this Marbles deal or Pullen park. I remember seeing that last season when we were in town for a game. It just so happens we are here an extra night.

I’m easy to please. Just find me a local brewery and feed me beer. :D

Your comment reeks of, “We do it better up there”.
Apparently not, because you stayed here

Previous post not withstanding, Farmers Market and restaurants, Museum of Natural History, any other museums. I don't know if Greenshields brewery and restaurant is still going.

Ive seen the museum of history there in Raleigh - theu had some cool military /gun exhibits. Tjey had a very cool ww1 exhibit setup a few years back but i think it was temporary

Guess you are a little sensitive. There was no reference to ‘up there’. And where I grew up, ‘up there’, there was jack shit to do in the city as well.

Might want to get some help for that. Might affect your relations with others. :D

The Pit. That was my suggestion. If you don’t like it, don’t go there. Simple.

CZfool68,
I'll probably skip "The Pit"
I heard that it appeals mostly to arrogant smart asses.
But, I'm glad you enjoy it.

Where is this farmers market you guys speak of, and is it like a flea market?

My grand-daughter vouches heartily for both of those.
I have to give second-hand recommendations because I avoid Raleigh (and most up-jumped carpetbagged towns) like the plague.

The Farmer's Market is off Lake Wheeler Rd. not far from downtown. It has "local" produce and stuff in a large outside shelter plus another building with shops inside. Most any time we go to Raleigh we go there and eat at the Seafood restaurant. And be sure to go in the indoor place at the end closest to the road and get an orangeade and a fried apple pie. You can thank me later.

When I moved to NC, The Pit was great. Then Pitmaster Ed left, and the quality massively declined. It's nothing special anymore.

Probably too late, but I'll chime in a bit. As for eateries, Angus Barn can be interesting, especially if you can wrangle a tour. But it's not cheap. There is a brewpub on Glenwood near the south end that was started by a homebrewer, I think it's called Brewmasters.

Lots of other good suggestions here: Marbles, Science Museum, etc.. There's also the Flea Market, fun to wander and window shop. And NC Museum of Art (search NCMA). They even have outdoor picnic areas.

Farmers Market is on Western Blvd. Just inside the beltline. South side of town. Farmers Market restaurant for breakfast or seafood restaurant for lunch. Not a flea market, that's usually at the state fairgrounds on weekends.

Great recommendation! It’s not something that would normally catch my eye otherwise. I’m glad you recommended it. It was really good!!
It is a tasty beer. High octane, though. I think its 9% or better.

I should've thought of it earlier. The raleigh beer garden is on Glenwood. I'm not sure if it is still in the Guinness book or not, but it was at one point for having the most beers on tap in one place. Pretty cool place.
