I have a 2006 F350 Super duty dually. Id like to put a larger tire on it than stock. They warn that you need a wheel spacer if you are going to do that. I dont want to go Monster Mudder, but a nice sized tire to fill out the wheel well. It currently wears 245/75/17. Anyone have experiance with spacers? What say you?

I have 1.5 inch spacers on my 2500HD. Have no issues what so ever. The nice ones arent cheap. Couldn't pay me to run cheap ones.

Yep, ran 315/75s on mine with either 1.5 or 2" steel hub centric spacers. Don't remember which size it was. No ill effects, just made the truck that much wider which was a pain at times. I recently took them off when I went back to 255/85s

One thing to consider, you have 6.5" wheels so anything wider than a 255 or so you'll probably have to air down to get a somewhat even contact patch. I had to run 35psi in my 315s to keep them mostly flat.

I have these but don't recall them being this expensive when I bought mine almost 10 years ago.

So I do some "heavy" towing at times. (gooseneck and 9K tractor including weights)

So can I go to a 255/85 without spacers? Does it look a little better?

I have never been a fan of spacers. Tried them out forty years ago and prematurely wore out the spindle bearings due to the increased loading on the outer bearings.

There is no way that I'd use them for a truck that I did "heavy towing" with, but then again my definition of heavy towing might be in a different league than others....

I wouldn't be afraid of heavy occasional towing, used to know a guy that towed ~15k lbs daily with his running 6" lift and 37x12.5s with spacers. Never heard him have any issues but like Scott said bearings will be under more stress due to the weight being shifted further out.

I can text ya a couple pics of what mine looks like with 255/85r16 if you want to pm me your number. Mine has leveling kit upfront and 4" blocks in the rear so it sits a little bit higher than stock.

255/80r17 would be comparable to the size I have in a 17" wheel.

I think he means spacers between the dual rear wheels, to spread the wheels farther apart. In a former life, I had like 10 mm spacers between the rear wheels on a 1999 F350, I had some pretty gnarly Nitto's on it and did some heavy towing with no problems.

Been researching this myself. Currently stuck in an 01 superduty. I think 255’s are the general consensus for not rubbing without spacers (while being able to run lower than max air pressure when unloaded again, without the tire-touch) some people do go wider but I’m not interested in 80 psi ride quality 24/7 and I don’t like the look of spacers from the rear.
