When changing oven heater elements, even if the oven is "turned off", it's really...

I've been fixing crap since I was 12 you old coot. I haven't shocked myself in probably 20 years. I was past due.

And don't you have a BST complaint thread you need to go post in?

I would but this place is slow ...

You'll be entertained to know I just ordered a new element. I'll be sure to post pics of the house fire.

You guys need to stop saying negative things about electrons.

Y'all stay tuned. That new oven heater element should be here in a couple of days.

Gosh, I miss watching Star Truck.

Ever welded a wrench to a high-amp 12v battery? Like a 1200 CCA deep cycle battery?

I have. Once.

You know you should take better care of your tools! I imagine it got your attention, I never welded one to a battery but have arched one before when working on a starter and thought the battery was unhooked needless to say it got exciting real quick.

I once got my elbow on one terminal and watch band on the other. Resistance heat in action...

what genius decided that aircraft have to be 400hz......

I can answer that!! The lower the frequency, the heavier the transformers would have to be. 400Hz saves weight by allowing much smaller transformers.

My chem teacher back in high school did that. Never wore a watch again!

Back in the day, Harley magnetos used to be the best joke for newbies. Here hold this wire, then give it a spin! Had a friend changing a dryer out, smart guy, gunsmith, had to get a new cord since the outlets never seem to be the same anymore. Total brain fart, he decides to plug it in to make sure it fits, while the hot end was in his other hand, in a short amount of time, it pretty much scorched him down to the finger bones. Took me days to get the story out of him, he was so embarrassed.

The worst shock I ever got was from the capacitor in a microwave oven. I had forgotten to discharge it. Luckily it was in one side of my hand and out the other side (didn't pass through anything important). A piece of aluminum foil on the end of a wooden spoon became one of my standard tools after that.

One of the scariest things I ever saw was a capacitor about the size of a 16 oz tallboy beer can. Even the larger of the circuit board size caps can put a hurting on you... I'm not sure I want to know what would happen if that things discharged across something not designed for it (eg human body).

If you've ever peed on an electric fence, chances are you wont do it again.

I have a buddy who's a "name" guitar amp builder. When he starts pokin' around inside an amp, while BSing with me in his shop, I stand well away. I once bought a multimeter strictly to set the bias, when putting a fresh set of tubes in one my amps. That was as up close & personal as I wanted to get its internals. Those caps will kill you if yer not careful.

Kind of off-topic, but if anyone needs a broiler element for a GE range ( attaches with push-on terminals, not screws) I have two that you can have for free.
