As I've said a few times around here, I got into milsurp - and Mosins, more specifically - about 10 years ago when I was midway through college. I've bought, sold, and traded several Russian and Chinese variants over those years, and shot the hell out of every one along the way. Fast forward to the past 12 months, and I believe I can recall just one range visit where a Mosin joined fellow firearms in my trunk for the ride out. It's easily been three years or longer since I last cracked open my last olive drab spam can. I still have a few hundred rounds of commercial brass for the PU, and a few hundred more of mixed Bulgarian and Russian steel in bags.

For all you Mosin owners on the Forum ... when's the last time you wrenched your way into a 7.62x54r can? If you're still shooting your rifle(s) with any regularity, what ammo are you using? Maybe it's nostalgia (it sure ain't rationality), but I actually miss the experience and effort involved.

Lst one I opened was a can of M67 about 5 years ago.

About three weeks ago. I enjoy shooting all my missurps. Bought several crates of spam cans back in 2014 when it looked like supply may be drying up. Paid $160 per crate and sold the wood boxes for $30 each. So I feel I did ok. Wish I would of bought more Swiss ammo. But I think I should have enough to last a while.

At just under 15 cents a round, I'd say you did more than okay.

I think I'd shoot my Mosins more if I had the old range close to me. Before moving to Durham I was just 10 minutes or so from a fantastic outdoor range and would spend all day out there, hop in the car, and be home in a flash. Now, it's about an hour each way to the nearest outdoor range, and it's typically pretty dreadful out there. So, I usually only take a few AKs because they don't cleaned right away.

Still see at least one Mosin almost every visit, but a lot of those guys are shooting Tula x54r. I wonder if they're conserving their cans, too.

While not 7.62x54, I did crack open two spam cans of Greek HXP M2 ball last year for the JCG match at Camp Perry. Had this stuff since 2006 and paid $234 shipped per case (960 rounds).

It's probably been 10 years since I opened my last span can,I have a tin each of Russian & Bulgarian steel case LB ammo made late 70's early 80's as well as a few hundred rds. of Yugoslavian brass case contract ammo in 15 rd. boxes that I don't plan on touching anytime soon. Since I cast and reload for the caliber I can crank out all the shooting an hunting ammo I need fairly cheap compared to the commercial stuff.

I bought two cans of 54R in probably 2006, maybe 2007. Opened one, and the other has remained sealed. I have a can of Tula .223 that will probably get opened before I shoot through all that Mosin feed.

I last opened a can of x54 about 5 years ago. Back when I shot mosins a lot I was shooting a lot of Russian and Romanian surplus. I used to buy a lot of golden tiger x39 in spam cans too.

Since then, I've sold all my mosins and my AK, and haven't needed to buy spam cans of either ammo. I still have my SKS, and plenty of ammo for it, but I haven't shot it in years.
