Not sure I've shared this story. It might make you feel a bit better.
On one of my first trips to Europe, I bought a couple unusual watches. They're made in Denmark and that's where I found them. One of the two became my favorite and I wore it daily for years...until it disappeared. I was heartbroken.
My loving wife found that one of maybe 3 or 4 US outlets for the brand was in Chicago. Behind my back, she somehow conspired with a Chicago-based colleague of mine to go there, buy the same watch and ship it to her. She gave it to me for the holidays.
When I opened the package, I was surprised and overwhelmed. I don't think I told her that the one they'd bought wasn't exactly the same (same model but maybe in a different metal?). After admiring it a while, I put it in the safe. Guess what I found in the safe.
Lesson learned? Look for stuff where it oughtta be 'cause occasionally I actually put things where they belong. This was hard learned in my case and now it's compounded by Oldtimer's.
