Where do all the brand new cars go when a dealership replaces their inventory with the new model year vehicles??

I know every dealer can't sell every car/truck.

So with 2018s hitting the lots, where do the brand new 2017s go?
Even more specific, where do the brand new 2017 Ford F150 SuperCrew FX4 4x4 5.0s go?

I don't know about other dealerships, but at the Ford dealer here in Eden, they all stayed until they were sold. End of year clearance and factory incentives usually made them all go by the first quarter of the incoming year. The FX4s and Platinums and other high end trucks always sold. Some are dealer traded for other vehicles, but at our dealership trucks were hard to part with especially the high end pieces since they all were sold eventually . Think about it. With sticker prices climbing every year, wouldn't you buy a new 2016 FX4 that is sitting beside the almost identical 2017 that doesn't have a pile of dealer incentives? Another scenario would be, suppose you were shopping for a new 2017 XLT and found a 2016 FX4 for just a few dollars above your intended budget for the XLT?

As someone who spent 20 years in the car business I can say that they sell the old inventory one at a time until they are all gone. When the new year is introduced, the prior year's models start to get rebates and dealer cash to reduce the cost. Once the year turns over in Jan, they start to give big dealer cash discounts to the dealers to move out the old model. $3000, $5000, $8000 discounts are common on the higher priced units. So, a 2018 truck lists for $50k and the 2017 model with the same options lists about the same but has a "deal" for $8000 off MSRP... well, which way do you go? Come April 1, all the incentives are applied and any remaining inventory is sold at no profit or at a loss. Eventually, they all go away.

You want to look for those leftovers when you're shopping for cars, esp if they haven't changed anything and it's a carryover. Which is likely the case on trucks (and why trucks have some of the 6-digit rebates)

Well...Here's MY problem. I can't buy it just yet due to personal issues. Hopefully by the end of this year or maybe in January.

I want a 2017...NOT a 2018!!

I'm would like to have a 17 F150 SuperCrew XL 4x4 with the STX package. 5.0 V8 is a must! I would also like to get the FX4 package on the STX that I know you can get.

I have a friend that knows the owner personally of a major dealership...So I can probably get an " insiders deal"....If they have any left the way I want when I'm ready to buy...[emoji26]

I do not want that start/stop crap that is forced down your throat on the 18s!!

my Dad bought a 2014 non-Aluminum bed 4x4 Lariat F150 with the 3.5L EB engine for around $14K off sticker in late 2014. They were eager to get rid of those superior trucks :D

You must be counting decimal points. Maybe 5 digit's

I think you can scroll thru the menu items on the dash/operator set up and disable that option
Yeah...There's a button you can press to disable it..But you have to do it every you get in the truck. I'm not sure if 18s have something like you suggest in the menu on the dash, but I don't even want that crap on my truck. .... Plus I like the 17 styling a little better.

Lord willing...... DirtySCREW 2 will come home one day...

My 3 series is the same way, you have to disable it every time you start the car. Thankfully, I don't mind it, however I also found a way to program certain things into my car such as disable auto-off by default, auto fold mirrors upon locking doors, etc.

Talk about first world problems, I just want a car that lets me enter stuff in nav while it’s moving.

When my daughter graduated high school, we bought her a brand new '12 Nissan Versa. She totalled it with less than 500 miles on the clock (don't ask). While shopping for a replacement, Crown Honda in Greensboro quoted us a stupid low price on a '12 Civic in June of '12.

I said to the sales girl, "betcha gotta butt load of these sitting on a lot somewhere, dontcha?" She just chuckled & replied, "something like that".

I was actually surprised that it was a no BS, no gamesmanship deal.

On a related topic, the nearly empty Cary Town Center mall is renting out a big chunk of its parking lot to some dealer. Rows and rows of Subarus and Kias (or maybe Hyundais - didn't pay much attention).

Gotta love Toyota! It annoyed the hell out of me when my wife first got her 4Runner. I've gotten used to it but it's still annoying as a passenger.

As far as a Toyota Nav goes.... you can enter addresses while driving if you use the saved addresses like "home", "work' or whatever. You have to have them saved. You can also change the Nav to a previously used address under the "previous" tab. You cannot enter a new address or use the keyboard while driving.... not such a bad idea if you think about it.

Most dealerships or even Autotrader will usually find you a car you are looking for, even if it's a ways away........ at any rate, odds are there will be some new 2017's out there well into the spring or even summer of 2018. Be patient.... don't panic.
