I'm new in town and I don't know who's who yet. I've got some lowers that require building. Where to buy locally...
Parts kits?
Completed uppers?
Trigger assemblies?
Pins, springs, hardware?
Barrels?
Gas tubes?
BCG?

drive out of Charlotte in any direction and find better gun stores. Everything but the lower I buy online. Well...I buy those online too we just need to have an FFL.

Unless you really don't have an idea about AR parts, you're generally just going to spend more buying locally.

AR15discounts, damage industries, PSA, Primary Arms, Brownell's, Combat Armory, granite ridge outfitters, etc.

Generally just follow gun.deals or the gundeals sub on reddit and you'll save a crap ton

Given the limited area seems to be a bit of a desert based upon this post, let's expand the search area. Where to buy within an hour driving of Charlotte? I would buy online (and have) as suggested, but I'm trying to build an anniversary present rifle for my wife and I don't want the stuff to show up on the credit card bills (thus FTF in store cash payment). She wants an AR9 conversion upper that's custom painted to match the standard AR15 type lower. In Illinois I had about 3 shops that stocked everything I needed, I never imagined I'd have trouble finding this stuff locally in NC/SC.

yeah. You're not gonna find what you want locally without paying twice what you would online. Best best is to get a prepaid VISA with the cash you would spend and use that.

As for an AR9 upper, I'd look at Foxtrot Mike pretty hard.

Sad but the only thing I buy locally are powders and primers and some minor reloading supplies while I'm there and that is usually Cabelas because it's close but I do buy from Sportsman in Rock Hill when I'm that way, since I've been going there for 20 years.

You’d rather go that route than Colt or Glock mags?

JSE surplus also has several 9mm uppers available. I have one from them, and one from PSA. Both use Colt mags.

I’m in Charlotte as well if you wanted to try either of the uppers with your lower. JSE is 7” barrel, standard lower with Hahn mag block and an Octane 45. PSA is a 4” barrel with a CMMG Colt-mag lower and a 1.25”x6.5” Form 1 silencer tucked inside the rail.

The gun is for my wife. She's not big on recoil. She doesn't want to put up with malfunctions. She's not "tactical" at all. The things she will care about are things like color and the absence of obvious work arounds. Adaptors and magazines that don't fit or look quite right aren't going to work for her. She doesn't need a dozen magazines either. The Endomag/9Arc mags are an elegant enough solution that will allow her to swap between a rifle chambering upper and a pistol chambering upper without having to swap the lower out. I have a few lowers kicking around that I want to use for this, I don't want to buy a Glock or Colt lower. I have Pmags kicking around. I don't own a Glock so I don't have Glock mags. No Colt mags either. No matter what I have to buy stuff here.
I digress...so I want to use an existing lower...I'm planning to have it engraved for our 20th anniversary with a design that's special to us. I'm also planning on dropping an anniversary ring down on the barrel as a fun way to gift the ring.

Given all the fuss and the requirements I'm really considering getting a CMMG built upper and calling it a day, but I really wanted to build it myself. She's commented about guns she likes over the years so I've wanted to make one for her that incorporates those parts.
