I’m looking at getting a new barrel for the 10/22. I’d like a threaded bull barrel. It would be used mainly for target shooting like “Know Your Limits” shooting. What brands should I be looking for? Does Green Mountain have decent barrels?
Threaded ... that kinda limits you somewhat ... I don’t remember Green Mountain factory threaded 10/22 barrels being out there. The most popular and Ferrari of those is likely the 16 1/2” Volquartsen LR carbonfiber which is threaded and comes with 2 muzzle choices ... the basic thread protector for $235 or with a very nice muzzle break for $285 ... if I chose to go Volquartsen I’d go with the muzzle break just to get that sweet break for only $50 to use when not running suppressed. There is an ugly under appreciated barrel that is actually the best dollar to performance out there ... a Shaw 16 1/2” threaded dull blued bull barrel for under $90. The Shaw is not flashy or wins any appearance awards ... it’s plain Jane ... but with the same other quality components in a 10/22 will hold its own with the high dollar fancy ones ... except it does weigh a ton.
Are you planning to only shoot off of a bench or bipod? If you plan on doing any standing shooting, I would def look at the Volquartsen. The extra weight of the Feddersen/Green Mountain/etc will "weigh" on you after awhile. The Volquartsen's are very accurate and very light.
I have a Volquartsen carbon fiber bull barrel, and it is incredibly accurate. I find myself being the major factor in the fliers right now, but I still keep buying the upgraded parts to increase accuracy. I picked up the trigger pack, and will be buying the bolt and guide next.
Volquartsen or Tac Sol would be my pick based own how they shoot for me. Whistle Pig Gun Barrel Co makes some fine shooting 10/22 barrels and has some unique options to make your 10/22 stand out in a crowd of blah looking 10/22 rifles.
