I’ve got 2 kydex mag carriers, one is for a belt and one has the belt clip.... I can’t get either to be comfortable. Sitting is the usual issue, it digs into me regardless of where I have it. I carry my g19 330-4 o clock fine, even sitting in the car.

Just curious what you guys use and where. I’d love to get it comfortable and be able to have a 17 round mag with a +2 baseplate on it for my spare.

16 in the 19 is probably enough, but no reason to risk it, if I don’t have to, right?

Bravo concealment mag carrier. I just carry a standard g19 mag. I’ve tried the 17 mags but seems like the 19s print a little less.

Gun 330/4 o’clock
Mag carrier offside 4/430

Bravo concealment has lifetime warranty I believe. I had the hardware break on one holster and they had replacement parts to me in a few days no questions asked.

You don’t carry a spare mag for the round count, unless it’s a 6-7 round single stack. You carry one for mag failure.

I have two from Jason, one with a clip and one with belt loops. Carry either of them (one is for 9/40, the other 45, so it’s and either/or situation) at about the 7:30 position...right behind my phone. Pistol is sitting about 2-3 o’clock, depending on location of belt loops.

On Sunday mornings, it’s a G27 on the inside left ankle...and two 15rd (G22) mags on the inside of the right ankle.

G19 most days with a G43 thrown in for good measure. I usually were 5.11 pants and the extra mag goes in the fron mag pocket. If not, then in my left hand back pocket. Then a couple dozen in the truck or Jeep.

If you can pull off appendix carry, that’s the easiest way to carry a spare mag. Look at holsters that have a mag caddy.

I second the vote for a ChiefJason OWB hybrid, on the belt at about 10:00.

I carry a Shield 9 with the eight round mag. In my weak side front pocket I carry the 7 round mag.

Always slip an extra mag or speed strips in my left front pocket. I could never get a mag carrier to be comfortable for me.

Carry a Glock 26 and have spare Glock 19 magazine in my back left pocket. I made a hybrid leather/kydex magazine holster that slips into the back pocket. Leather backing is oversized to the same size as the entire pocket so it doesn’t shift around.

My extra mag is on my left hip in a blackhawk kydex carrier. I'm trying to imagine how that might dig into me but it never does.

^^ This. I should carry an extra but vertical carriers are just a pain in the side. I would like to find a single stack horizontal with full coverage.

I'll add as a wish list:
  • Full coverage horizontal
  • For full size 1911 Wilson Combat Elite Tactical Magazine, 9mm
  • Left side carry, opening forward
  • Almost full length belt loop (to keep it from twisting)
  • Leather (brown) not to thick
  • Single snap flap over the base plate (no Velcro)
  • Base plate lip(?) can be either orientation (up/down)
Actually with that description it could be either side carry.

My left front pocket works. I carry a spare for ammo count and possible malfunction.

Supposedly the average is 3 shots at 3 feet but if you plan to be average, you will most likely come out below average.

If one played the averages, carrying wouldn’t be necessary. ;)

I always undershirts and prefer an IWB or OWB leather magazine carriers with a protective strip of leather that runs up the entire length of the magazine. The leather feels much better to me than a magazine riding against my body even with the undershirt without it a magazine still pinches or rubs you. Like the one attached below.

I carry 1 or 2 spare 10 round (8 round with +2 Hyve extensions) IWB behind my left hip in kydex carriers of my own making.

I find that mag floor plate geometry matters for comfort. The Hyves are as rounded and smooth as it gets.

I almost always have a spare mag for whatever I am carrying with more in the truck if it is an option...

I carry a G19 and an extra mag every day, right now I’m running a Crossbreed Supertuck for the G19 and a TR Holsters “K” carrier for the mag.

I don’t...for the same reason I don’t lay off the fats and salts...I’m lazy.

I have a spare in the car at all times, which is totally useless.

I know it’s a good idea...BUT...it is playing averages...The probability of me needing to ever use my gun is nearing zero...the probability then of me needing a backup magazine is therefore even more minuscule.

So, while it’s not a bad idea to carry a spare, and I will at times, I don’t personally see it as the almost absolute critical element of my daily life.

I always carry a reload whether for a revolver, auto pistol or long gun. Only time having too much ammo is detrimental is if I have to swim it long distances. After being on two way rifle ranges, no such thing as too much ammo. It goes quickly.

That’s right, no such thing as too much ammo! The places that I go by myself has in the past put me sometimes at greater risk. I’m in the woods fishing and camping, riding my four wheeler or Jeep, or just hanging out. I’m up at all hours and my head to Wally World to get something at 0200. And I’ve come very close to having to use it. I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it! Just lessons learned the hard way.

figure out what angle and height the mag will ride where you want it and have @rantingredneck make you one to that angle. I like my spare to ride where the whole mag does not hang below the belt at all. I am using a mag carrier I modified to find the spot right now, I need to get one made myself. i carry my g23 on the left hip, mag on the right.

I carry two extra 10 rounders (P365 mags)in my third pocket. Or I carry one extra if I am carrying my G19 or Shield.

Interesting. That’d be around 30+1 on the Sig and around half that for the M&P.

I carry 2 G43s in DeSantis Nemis holsters, every step, every day.
Ah, a New York reload. Why carry spare bullets when you can carry a spare gun? ;)

I forget whose article was posted here some time back from an instructor or something like that. He carried a G19 and said on a practical basis, he doesn't always carry a spare magazine. And that they G19 had a decent workable capacity to either win a fight or get you out of a fight and exit the kill zone. I'm of similar thought. Sometimes a spare. But, if i know a situation may get even a little sketchy or even just unknown with potential, then it's double mag carriers and a 33rd. happy stick in the left back pocket by the wallet.

Use a NeoMag to carry a spare on me based on what I am carrying for the day, either G19 or Shield.
Spare mag is either in right front pocket or back right pocket (Lefty) ... usually a extra mag in center console of truck for both as well. In the winter, the 3rd magazine lives in strong side coat pocket to help with the toss out the way upon the draw.

If I am carrying revolver, speed strips go in the front pocket on left side with gun usually pocket carried or rear left pocket.
