I went for a trail run yesterday and was tickled to have bested my mile time by nearly 3 minutes! Glanced at the display and it showed me off trail on the other side of the state forest.

I'm getting faster, but somehow I think my gadget wasn't telling me the truth...not when the GPS is accurate +/- 1.6 MILES!!!!!

Shut down the phone, restarted and now it's back to +/- 32 feet, and I'm back to being fat and slow... =(

Haha its a conspiracy to make you think you are faster!!

Don't feel bad. My senior year of high school my parents moved us into the city. We had a street map to learn our way around. I had to walk to school about two miles. The map showed the scale so I took a tape measure and plotted a one mile course along the way and started running and timing my runs, and steadily improved my time.

I was absolutely elated when I broke four minutes even. OK, I knew it was a slight downhill grade but not too much. I still felt a sense of accomplishment. I was even doing that wearing Herman Survivor boots.

Shortly afterwards I bought a car and stopped running. One day I followed the same course and tracked the odometer.

Eight tenths of a mile.

:(

Did you give up the MTB idea?

nope. Mixing things up to keep from getting bored. I really want to kick ass on the next Run & Gun, so I need to keep running as part of the routine.

I'll go for a ride a couple times a week and jog/run a couple times. So far, the MTB is limited to old gravel/forest service roads with the 20yo Trek until I get my legs and wind. Then, I'll get back into looking for a new bike.

LOL. Hey, you ran a mile! That's great! Slow, fast, at least you ran, right?

You just need to stop slowing down when you pass through "Hooker Falls" :D

yes...each time I pass by there I pause and reflect on that particular fall's famous scene in Last of the Mohicans.

Nice! That is pretty cool. I would be doing the same.

I ran an 8K a while back, during my running days; we took off up hill in N Asheville, turned a left corner, and headed downhill towards a big-ish intersection being cleared by race officials. As I and some random woman neAr me passed by a side street, a cop working the race and another race official were pointing & waving toward the big intersection from the side street and yelling, "racers, go that way! THAT WAY!!!"

Turned out the lead racers had mistaken a morning jogger for one of their own and followed him off-course up the side street!

The woman looked right, then left, then at me, got a s#^$-eating grin on her face, pumped both fists in the air and screamed, "WE'RE IN THE LEAD! WOO-HOO!"

About 2 seconds later, the lean, mean runnin' machines from the imromptu detour passed us like we were standing still.

It's all in your perspective. A 3-minute improvement?! YOU'RE IN THE LEAD! WOO-HOO!!

Enjoy it while it lasts!
