Why is it so hard to find a plain 20 inch AR?

So you need a quality gun close to you, owned by someone who will trade for what you have because you can’t buy one straight up and don’t want to build. Your wanted ad has been up almost a year. Seems reasonable
Several years on art com and armslist. I never said quality, just not reproduction parts, i’m not looking for a conversation piece. Beat-up PD trade-ins from the 90’s still exist.

Then you should be wrapping this wanted ad up soon. Good luck

Weights of barrels (stolen from http://ar15armory.com/forums/topic/130526-pencil-vs-military-barrel/)

20" 'Pencil' (A1) Profile 1.8lbs
16" Medium Profile (0.75" for entire length) 1.8
16" Mid Length (Govt Profile under handguards) 1.6lbs
20" Govt (A2) Profile 2.1lbs

So......that theory is out the window.

Oh and by way of comparison:

Faxon 16" 'Gunner' barrel (stepped down from Govt to Pencil .625 gas block) 1.37lbs

BA's performance series 16" pencil barrel is similar at 1.4lbs.

So no a longer 20" pencil barrel is not lighter. It's the SAME or heavier than a comparable diameter 16" barrel, with more front-heavy leverage. And a longer thinner barrel means more harmonics and whip effect under fire.
Uhmmm, I'm behind in my reading. Will you explain about harmonics and whip effect, please?

After 8 pages, Goldilocks still has yet to have "the one that's juuusssttt riiigghhtt" magically fall into his lap....

What? You mean you don’t trade quality guns for whatever someone happened to have plus cash at a loss? You’re missing out on an untapped market

If you're into that, I've got some old 22s I can swap for SCARs, Cheytacs and such.

I don’t have the money to spare, I do have many things I don’t want.

Are you sure you're not suffering from the malady you have diagnosed others with?

We tend to think that our own stuff is great and well taken care, while others used crap is just that. Crap.

I was a car guy for quite awhile and people were very rarely realistic in their expectations of their dime a dozen car's worth because they did the scheduled maintenance and waxed it every once in a while.
