My wife's grandmother is missing. Left her house around 2:30pm today to go to the grocery store. She is 89 years old and doesn't drive much. Has a touch of dementia. Supposedly she was last seen at:

Honey's IGA grocery store
9580 W NC 10
Vale, NC 28168

This is close to the area where Burke, Cleveland, Catawba, and Lincoln counties all meet. Driving blue, 2010 Toyota corolla, license plate XPX-6332

This picture is very close to what the car looks like:

Please say a prayer for her.

My prayers for her.

Prayers for your wife’s grandma to be found safe.

Thanks everyone for your prayers - she was FOUND earlier this morning over 3 hours away in Raleigh!! Don't know much yet about how she got there, but the lady from Wake County sheriff's department said she seemed fine and that they were transporting her to the hospital just to check her out. Praise God!!

Im glad to hear this.
I saw your other post last night and, honestly, opened it thinking it was going to be a joke.
I dont want to know the torture you went through last night, I feel for you and your family.

Im glad she's safe and everything will be ok.
I guess it's time to hide those keys, sadly

Thank God they found her safe. I know it's hard but it's time to take the keys. I had to take them from my 91 yo mom last summer, she still fusses about it every time it comes up.

The serious talks should have already taken place. Don’t let this leason pass you by.

It’s not easy but it is important.

She's now back at home, acts normal, and is aware she went for a "little" drive . But, she doesn't understand why all the family is at her house "making a big fuss over nothing".

Long story short is that she left the grocery store around 4:00 or 4:30 and decided to go for a little drive instead of going straight home. Six (6) hours later, she winds up at St. Augustine's University in Raleigh. A college police/security officer ran her plates and it came back as a silver alert. They coaxed her out of the car and got her to wait while the ambulance was called. Still had the groceries in her car.

This was nothing short of a miracle. She normally never drives more than once ever week or so, and even then it is only a couple miles from home. She hasn't driven on interstate in probably 20 years. Not only is it hard to comprehend the 175+ miles she drove on interstate, but also the fact she made it to interstate given how rural the area is where she started.

The terror and grief we all felt last night is beyond what words can describe. Even worse is the utter feeling of helplessness. While we all are now relieved, I know there are many others who never get any any sense of closure - good or bad. I will never, ever again say goodbye to a loved one without hugging them, looking them in the eye, and telling them I love them.

I'm glad she was found and is safe! One of the tough things I had to do when Mom was deteriorating was take her car keys.....the kids/grandkids become the parents and the roles get confusing.

Maybe she didn’t really drive that far?

Glad she escaped.

Glad it worked out. My grandpa had an episode like that years ago headed home from my house. After that he voluntarily gave his keys up

Whew...….

A friend of ours grandmother took off like that one day. Her daughter checks in with her every day and this day she wasn't home. Left the doors unlocked and some other things I can't remember. At any rate, she took off to the beach and came back 2 days later. Scared everyone a little bit.

Glad she is safe. My Mom pulled that stunt one time. We had already made sure she was not driving, but my Dad had taken her to the mountains and stopped at a rest area on the way back. Left her in the car, forgot to take the keys and when he came back out they were gone! Total panic. She was the same way once we found her, had no idea what the big deal was. From then on the keys were hidden or in my Dad's pocket.;) It can be really tough and a handful once they start doing things like that.

Glad it turned out ok for everyone. Had a neighbor many years ago do the same except they found him driving down in atlanta ga and he had not been out of the country in many years.

What did she buy for grocerys? anything that needed refrigeration? Why would she " go for a little drive " when she needed to get the milk /meat in the refrigerator.?

If she has dementia, she wouldn't know "why" she did anything. She could have bought groceries and didn't even know she had them in the car. Dementia/Alzheimer's is a terrible thing. If you have not been through taking care of someone who has it, you have no idea. I've been through it with my dad and my mom's short term memory is failing badly now.

Glad it ended well for her. Went through almost the same thing with my F-I-L last fall. Drove around the same area in Cary for 4 hours. We filed a report with a CPD officer and as soon as the put it out on the radio another unit had an eye on him and stopped him. When we got him home he just stood there with his hands in his pockets like " what's going on?"

Whew.
Dodged the bullet this time. Up to family to make sure she dosen't get an opportunity like that again.
