We use a amazon fire stick that has been jail broke, there are about a million tutorials on how to online

AppleTV, Roku, Amazon Firestick, and a number of other streaming appliances are less expensive than buying a new TV. All will give you similar capabilities for streaming/installing streaming apps with some variation. If you’re already an Amazon Prime member, then you are already paying for their streaming service. Netflix, Sling TV, etc. and pretty much all networks offer streaming of their programming, for a small fee of course. What do you want to watch and how much do you want to pay? If you currently have Cable TV, is nothing replacing it when the provider goes away? Is there no option for broadband internet over that cable? Satellite TV works pretty much anywhere....

Firestick on non smart TV, amazon prime and use ATT TV via fiber.

Your internet is 100k or 100mbs?

Bandwidth from Windstream depends on a bunch of stuff. They can deliver 300mbps even if they don’t have fiber to your home, they just need fiber to the node that serves your house and your house has to be a certain distance or less from that node. So, it’s technically possible, but rarely ever works, so maintain your pessimism.

If you’re getting 100mbps down today then you’re fine for streaming any of the commercial stuff. I use a Roku in a couple rooms and a smart tv downstairs. Had a firestick but it burned up. Lots of options below $100 and they generally output hdmi so should plug right into your current panel.

OTA antenna- but you said reception is not that good.

Other Streaming Services:
Netflix
Amazon (if you are a Prime member you already have it)
AppleTV

Free options: Pluto, Xumo, Sony Crackle, Tubi TV.

Other options: Sideloaded/jail broke Firestick. As @Rskahle stated lots of tutorials out there.

This list in not all inclusive.

Best place to compare channels and pricing is Cordcutting.com

We have an OTA antenna, Philo, YTTV, AppleTV (free for a year), Pluto, Xumo, Crackle, Tubi and other miscellaneous on a Firestick. Use an Amazon Recast to record OTA content.

A hacked Firestick is great for movies and such ... and gives more entertainment for your buck since it’s just the cost to buy the stick and you already have internet no extra cost there.

Best Smart TV to me is a Samsung ... we bought a 50” Samsung last year for just under $300. Great picture and simple to use ... the sound is a little lacking but so are most flat screens since speakers suck or are down firing. It has more apps than any other TV I’ve seen ... ROKU, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, etc ... it also has free over the internet Pluto TV which has some decent channels. You can pickup FOX and Fox News with apps also. A person might also be able to use a Spectrum app with a valid Spectrum ID if they have access to one from another location with a Spectrum account to pickup a bunch of Spectrum cable channels.

Sony smart TV, OTA antenna from Amazon ( $5), Pluto TV app, Amazon prime, and Netflix. I'm not lacking for content. In fact there's more here than I can ever consume. I'm saving $75/ mo over having cable TV.

Get a roku and go spectrum all day everyday. It's like 35 dollars to get local channels live and streaming, plus ten channels of your choice. Easy as pie.

I’d never heard of that (and don’t need it) but looked it up. Seems like a decent deal.

But it reads like you have to have their internet service to subscribe?

The first article I read spelled it out a little more clearly.

From that linked page...

All you need to get started with your Choice package is their Internet. It’s a classic case of a win-win situation. Traditionally, you would get a Double Play or Triple Play service to enjoy TV and the internet. But with Spectrum Choice, all you need to do is select one of the affordable internet options.

And the first article I read spelled it out a little more clearly. I only say that because the linked article seems to be from Spectrum, so it’s written like only their internet works...maybe as a sales pitch.

I have a non smart tv with a roku (or get Amazon fire stick) and then YouTube tv for streaming live tv. I already had Amazon prime and Netflix but now watch those on the roku.

I prefer youtube tv over Hulu since you can fast forward through commercials when you record.
