Wizard Drill

Perfectly described as the Gold Standard. I shoot this COLD every day. Somedays I clean it....some days. Of ALL the shooters who shot this during the Meet and Greet, Only one person passed. One. Race Ready Red. This is so simple it is deceptive. Try it then watch Hackathorn's remarks Again After he shoots.

Just make sure you got a new roll of tape before you mark your target. LOL ;)

Looks like a good drill. But it's a drill. I have no mental or physical commitment to firing one shot in SD. IMO, that makes a difference in the small pocket pistols. But I won't commit to one shot with a 9mm either. Use as many as it takes.

I constantly forget to do this one.
Someday.
Doesn't seem like a challenge. Maybe I'll be surprised. I never practice my concealment draw, could break me.

It's not a drill, it's a pop quiz. Drills are for training, this is a readiness check.

Exactly. If you run it over and over again like a drill it is useless. If you get out of your car setup the target and the timer and GO! Then it’s a pretty good yard stick of how well you handle your CCW.

It is a Test of if you can run your CCW at self defense ranges on demand without warming up.

It is harder than it looks when you consider you are drawing from concealment and getting on target in 2.5 seconds.

The El Prez starts with your BACK to the targets from a surrender. It is set up here all the time. People have gotten so far away from the El Prez that it is meaningless. El Prez is shot from start to finish from 10 meters. NOTHING like the Wizard. The Wizard says SO much real quick.

Try it....get back to me.

Not saying I would be good at it. It just does not fit what I do. Head shots are low on my list of SD priorities and I don't buy that it's the best option close in for a smaller caliber pistol. Which is the direction he seemed to be heading. IMO, the head is the worst possible target in real life. It's a high risk/high reward target. It's the first large body part to move, it's the fastest to move, and it's the smallest of the good targets.

Now, if I was at the meet and greet I would play. I'm just not seeing it as a good judge of SD. It's a good judge of some things, one handed speed and accuracy. Which can be important. So I'd play the game, but how poorly I did wouldn't really reflect to me that I'm unprepared. Because I have near zero interest in preparing for that shot.

My use of the word start, was in context of the El Prez started as a test of skill, and has morfed into a drill, that was many variations.

380 was up there among the big boys in terms of real world one shot encounters.

It was also high in multiple shot non deaths. I think the video showed that any magnum was the best and that 9, 40 and 45 was perfect middle ground. 9 wasn't as good as 40, 40 wasn't as good as 45 but it wasn't by much.

You're still overthinking it. "can you hit what you're aiming at, on demand, cold, quickly?" That's all. The choice of a head shot is arbitrary.
I cannot, BTW. not to my satisfaction at least.

Perfect description. The shots are not hard to make. It's when the timer gets involved, things change.

In “real life” you often don’t get to choose your target.
What if a strong hand head shot is your only option?
Worth practicing, no?
