Who makes a good one that will not break the bank. I am in search of one for a unique 3 sided fireplace thats in my home. I make just make another spot for it.

Ideally it would go in the said spot since there is a chimney already. Ill have to get the dimensions it would have to be on the shorter side.

Lots of awsome non UL listed stoves on craigslist but it sounds like you need one for your home.
Is your intent to use it to heat your home in the event of an extended service outage?
What size wood do you intend to burn?
What size is your chimney and flue?
Is draft strong or weak?

As always, lots of variables.
Devils in the details.

I bought my insert from CL, it's from the early 80s oil embargo days. Made of solid plate steel with dual blowers and no glass = all business. Heats my 2200sq ft home easily, but uses alot more fuel than newer EPA rated stoves. I plan on adding a secondary burn system to it one day, and maybe actually hooking it up to the chimney instead of literally inserting it into the fireplace :D

But...NC has no laws against visible smoke like some of those commie states, and the smoke actually blows downwind and helps me cover up my scent during deer season in the backyard stand ;)

Harbor Freight used to sell some Vogelzang wood stoves for cheap, like $79 cheap, but alas no longer. I bought one for my little outbuilding and it kicks ass.

Love my Black Bark II insert. Use it for primary heating in winter, heats the whole house no problem.

We built a year ago, Robbie our mason (I don't know if he's here, he's a member @ Woody's) did a great job, including cutting the bricks & rounding the corners as an extra. The Chatham Co inspector that has a Jethro Gibbs reputation wanted to know who the mason was because he was impressed with the job. Robbie also built a beast of a 25' chimney with an 8' base. We got a used 3 sided High Valley insert for $1K and it's stupid efficient and fired it up this week.
My wife just got the tree & stockings up.

10 Stockings ?
[Jaws] You're gonna need a bigger tree...[/Jaws]
The trick is to put the tree on a box so it just looks bigger, and there's more space below it. :)
My three sons are married & we've 2 grandsons.
That's a break, we had @ 30 for Thanksgiving, we're doing it again today for just the 10 of us. I just need the excuse to fry another bird.
