I acquired a Ruger 10/22 Sporter (Model 31167). I've been researching drop in triggers for it. It was a $400 rifle, I'm just kind of on the fence about putting a $400 Kidd trigger in it. What say you ?

The drop in trigger parts kit works really nice in my humble opinion. I have the Kidd and volquartsen I’m happy with both. I would rather have the parts kit and a accurized bolt for same amount of money

I wouldn’t. Tons of good, decent and excellent 10/22 triggers out there. If I was going to drop $400 I’d just bite the bullet and but an entire custom rifle. But if this is some kind of build your own upscale 10/22 you do you. But that trigger on that stock and barrel seems like overkill to me. For me I could probably spend $100 and be happy. And I am a trigger snob.

this is the way

You can get just the hammer and I did, but, this is nicer.

Everyone upstream is nailing with their comments. That trigger is designed for precision shooting. The rifle in its current configuration is not a precision rig. So at the end of the day, you would have a $800 rifle, that shoots like a $400 rifle. There are many other trigger upgrades for the 10/22 at a fraction of the cost. And they are really nice for a $400 rifle IMHO.

@Average Joe thanks, thats really the kind of input that I'm looking for. I have another 10/22 with the Magpul Backpacker stock that I put the BX trigger in. It is a big improvement over the stock trigger. That might be what I get for this one. I'm not sure that I'm skilled enough to deal with one of the trigger kits like @mostly22lately mentioned.

That's my fav 10/22 model. Love that stock and stainless.

I would buy the Kidd Drop in kit, which I put in my last 10/22. It's a great solution. I would also add a Kidd Extractor right off the bat.

^^^^ this
I have 3 Volquartzen firing group kits, a Kidd kit (slightly nicer than the V’s) and a Kidd drop in. If it was me, I’d get the Kidd firing group kit.

IMO - it depends if you're going get $400 of value out of replacing your current (stock?) trigger with it. If accuracy goals can't be accomplished with anything else, then sure. If the goal is a rifle wrapped in $100 bills, then sure. Otherwise...

I have a Kidd and a Brimstone upgrade. Both excellent; Kidd top shelf. But unless you upgrade the rifle with new or setback and recrowned bbl plus bolt work your accuracy potential is limited. If CPC is still going I would send the barreled action to him before you spend $$ on a trigger.

And the best .22 ammo for real accuracy is $.20-$.30 per round or more so budget some $$ for that as well. Norma TAC is maybe the best affordable .22 ammo out there but still not as good as even mid grade Eley.

If you don't plan to upgrade the bolt/bbl than spend less on a trigger and find some good quality ammo that can shoot groups at 100 yd.

I can testify to quality work of brimstone
A lot of the people at our steel match are running these.

If you aren't going to upgrade the barrel then you are wasting money on the Kidd trigger. The Kidd barrel along with their trigger and bolt will be a major upgrade. However you will have a lot of money tied up at that point.

I am in favor of a better barrel and BX trigger for quick drop in accuracy improvement for under $400. Assuming you have the right optic for what you are shooting and decent ammo. Kidd barrels in the $250 range are perfectly fine.

I've watched a few videos on the Kidd "Trigger Job". Looks like that might be a good option. And maybe add a Kidd bolt assembly, and possibly a fluted bull barrel at some point. Not sure what would be the best option for a stock.

Sounds like an all out 10/22 upgrade. Everything but the receiver. So why not order a Kidd rifle customized to your liking. Stock or chassis options are plentiful. Folded, benchrest, hunting, NRL 22. Depends on your final goal and budget. Here is one that is very adjustable and versatile. Luth AR MCA 22.

Victor Titan stock is cheap-ish and very nice. I've got my custom Volquartsen in one and I really like it.

Sell me that trash stock and barrel for cheap, lol.

Man, just my opinion, but all it needs is a trigger. And maybe a few small parts. I'd put some glass on it and try some different ammos. Give it a chance.
She's nice handy carbine just as she sits. If you are gonna remove stock and barrel, then just sell this gun and start with the basic carbine and throw out the cheaper parts. Or do a precision build from a receiver.

This would be pretty nice in the woods just like this. Takes a can. Be sweet on squirrels, rabbits, plinking, etc. I guess that is the medium taper barrel?
And it looks so nice with the stainless and sporter stock. Maybe some of you fellers have broken eye sockets. I feel like these are the Cadillac 10/22's.

If CPC were still around this would be a good one to send. I saw some pretty good results with the basic carbine barrels they did.

Agreed! Adding a BX trigger or a trigger job and some nice glass would make this rifle perfect!

There are many stripped receivers on the market in the $80ish dollar range if you are going to start changing barrels, stocks, adding $400 triggers etc.

In other words if you are going to do a custom build, for another $80ish bucks you’d have 2 really nice rifles!

I'm thinking that I will order the Kidd "Trigger Job" kit first and see how it does with that. I'm no highly skilled precision shooter, and I probably never will be. So the $400 Kidd trigger is really overkill for me. I like the barrel and the stock that I have alot, that's mostly why I got it. But I'd like for it to shoot good, I'd be happy if I could hit a golf ball consistently at 100 yards or so. I put a Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 on it, which I think should be sufficient.

This is the Kidd trigger that I put in my Bergara:

KIDD Two Stage Trigger Unit for the .22
guard color with trigger blade color: Black with red straight blade (+$20.50)
Pull Weight: 12oz/12oz=1.5lbs (mid-weight target/plinking)
Magazine Release Lever: Extended (Medium)
Speed or Long Magazine Release Lever: No thank you
Hammer Spring: .22 long rifle

Product ID: 10

$370.50

It may be surprising to some that the longest shot I've ever made on paper with that rig is 30 yards.

However, the longest shot that I've successfully taken on a squirrel was right at 94 yards (with CCI Suppressed Subsonic HP 45 grain 970fps). Those kinds of shots aren't a problem at all (My downfall seems to be 10 yards and closer.).

I went with the Medium Magazine Release since as you can see I sometimes hunt from box stands. Even for squirrel. The Large/Long releases limit how you can prop.

I say all that to get to the same points that have been iterated upstream.
Is it worth it?
Depends on what you're gonna use it for.

The Kidd trigger made a heck of a difference for me. I can stage on the "wall" and twitch that last 12 ounces before the animal can twitch. I don't wanna loose that race. Once I've made up my mind to shoot, I don't wanna risk wounding an animal.

I'd upgrade the trigger for that rifle in a heartbeat, yes, even before the barrel and stock. If you were using it for the same purposes as me, I wouldn't even change the barrel or stock and I wouldn't feel that the money on the trigger is wasted.

It ain't always about paper.
And squirrels ain't the only thing I shoot with that rig.

While you are doing the trigger, you may find this to be a useful mod. Can be easily performed with a dremel.

Edit: or add the Kidd auto bot release to your order. And an extractor, lol.
