Whereas, Article VI, Section 11 of The Constitution of the State of West Virginia explicitly permits additional territory to be admitted into, and become part of this state, with the consent of the Legislature and of a majority of the qualified voters of the state; and

Whereas, In a spirit of conciliation, the Legislature of West Virginia hereby extends an invitation to our fellow Virginians who wish to do so, to join us in our noble experiment of 156 years of separation from the government at Richmond; and, we extend an invitation to any constituent county or city of the Commonwealth of Virginia to be admitted to the body politic of the State of West Virginia, under the conditions set forth in our state Constitution, specifically, with the consent of a majority of the voters of such county or city voting upon such proposition; and we hereby covenant that their many grievances shall be addressed, and, we further covenant with them that their firearms rights shall be protected to the fullest extent possible under our Federal and State Constitutions...

Wow.

It's worth going to the link and reading the entire text.

If I’m reading this correctly then.:::: Hell yea. Good for WV to at least extend the offer

So the way the resolution is written WV would not consider annexing a county until the VA legislature approved the departure of the county from the commonwealth. While not impossible I suppose, it seems more likely that the VA legislature would vote to keep the county, ensure that they get a disproportionately small share of state spending in the future and pummel them with new restrictive laws. Most likely the county’s resolution would simply never be taken up.

If this approach could work without bloodshed we’d already have 2 Californias, 2 Illinois, 2 Michigans, 2 New Yorks, etc etc etc.

Do have to wonder if the federal government would move to reunify a state divided. Even without a single shot fired, if half the state simply stopped remitting state taxes I wonder what anyone could do about it. The emperor has no clothes.

I'd just love to see the legal battle when one or more counties or municipalities petitions the state for secession.

These counties need to declare their secession from VA and STOP paying any homage to VA. No taxes, no reports, no nothing. Kick their state PoPo out and everything. Seriously what are they going to do. Send enforcers? Would you be willing to go to hostile territory and die to keep people who don’t want to be associated with you in your state? File a “lawsuit”, meh, ignore it. Again let em send their damned enforcers.

If people were willing to stand up and assert their RIGHTS with the same conviction of lethal force that the State uses with its stupid “laws” the govts. wouldn’t be able to get away with half the crap they do no. That paycheck and badge get pretty small when the collective people would just as soon kill you as look at you,

I hereby submit my request for satellite annexation of my little corner of Cumberland County. Please accept us into the newly formed state of West Carolina.
"What state do you live in?"
Appalachia.
"Is that a state?"
Yes.

How long until WV starts turning purplish? I hate to sound negative, but the push is strong.

And I'm not afraid to admit my ignorance when it comes to state (or just about any) politics.

I love WV, moms family is all from there, but it is a welfare state. So many people are on government assistance, cradle to the grave as they say. They will follow whatever politician promises to keep paying their monthly free stuff army checks.

WV has always been a traditionally Democrat state. In the past 10-15 years they have seen their guns, other rights and yes Welfare given to other people. WV is still a Democrat leaning state with state level politicians. National politics it has been republican leaning for a while. Life in the Mountains is not an easy life and unless you have a network of family and friends it gets even worse. So unlike texas,NC and some of these other purple states you probably won't have to worry about WV. The part of the take as much as possible from the government is true, but that said to them it's their right as Americans. But it's not the rights of someone that just walked a bunch and illegally crossed a border or those that are to lazy to work.
