I didn't know my grandpas very well but today I ran across one of their boxes of stuff. Pictures, Army medals, stuff from Fort Jackson, discharge papers, etc. Most of it is dated around 1919. I really have no use to keep it since my daughter isn't interested. Do any of you know of any groups that might like to have it for history purposes?

Would a local national guard unit be interested in them for display? Do you have any information as to what unit(s) they were in?

My brother in law, who is retired military, has been involved with collecting memorabilia for unit histories. If you can find out some unit info, I'll pass it along to him to see what he would recommend.

After my grandfather passed I found a box in the top of a closet that had been there since they moved into the house in 1947. He was a WWII vet and the box contained all the letters he wrote home to my grandmother and the rest of the family and all of the letters that the family sent him. It had all of his draft papers along with all the little Western Union type notices that were sent including when his tank was blown up. I have them stored in 5 plastic totes bins.

Texas Tech has a HUGE Vietnam war repository. I imagine another school does as well. I'm sure a school or museum would find it beneficial.

ive only seen one original discharge paper from a WW1 Veteran, it was very interesting. you have to save that history

Copy of my grandfather's (Benjamin Bass) notice to report, July 1918. He was an army ambulance driver and stevedore. I have a couple other docs somewhere. Preserve them digitally, then donate the originals. Edited to add, everything I have are photocopies or digital, I don't have original docs. Those, the docs you have, are priceless.
