My girls are very interested in American history. My oldest is mostly interested in WWII history. I have 2 grandfathers (one Europe and one Pacific) and one guy that was nearly my grandfather (KIA Luxembourg) that served in WWII. Mom's dad died when I was about 18 months old. Dad's dad never talked about his service to anyone, even his kids. So I've gotten curious about where they served but it's not the easiest thing to sort out. I have a couple Service serial #'s. But about all I can get in a quick search is enlistment papers. I would love to find out where they went.
Bud, Grandmothers fiance when he left, was a Tec5 in the Army when he was KIA. Technician 5th grade puts him at Corporal rank. Killed about a month after the end of the Battle of the Bulge and in that area.
LT, grandfather, I think was 82nd Airborne medic. I've been told the medic part by my grandmother. IIRC, he was 82nd based on pics I have found.
Weaver, Dad's dad, was Navy. I do know his discharge records burned. We had trouble getting copies and paperwork for the military funeral service.
Any of you guys have places to start?
