What are your favorite lures, rods, line, bait, and tactic for fishing for your favorite fish. Bluegill, catfish, bass, etc.

Just seeing what works for people. The last few channel cats I have caught loved big gulp earth worms. Hit them hard. Using a 6ft Shakespeare light weight rod and 8lb test line. Lots of fun :)

I'm wanting to go for large mouth bass as the ponds I go to have alot of them but never tried for them.

Thanks!

Also what would the limit be for the size of lake you can use a kayak in? Don't want a boat but think a fishing kayak would be good. Probably get my old man to go in for half ;)

I love rivers!! Ultra light rod in the 4-5' length a lightweight spinning reel spooled with 8lb spider braid (2 lb diam) and a handful of wordens rooster tails (silver & white or black & gold). You can catch bream, bass and crappie until you are tired of catching them. I have a 12' sit on top kayak that I love more than anything I have ever fished out/off of.

I fish smallmouth up in NY a lot. 6' to 6.5' spinning fear with Kistler rods. I like the middle to high end Shimano and Daiwa reels. I actually like the Daiwa stuff more for spinning reels and Shimano for bait casters. Usually throw Senkos or drop shot up there. Fall can have some terrific topwater with poppers. I have a handful of older Rico's and fancy poppers than can be walked. Smallie's blow them up. I'll throw a spinner bait if the wind is blowing. My newest fun lure is plastic swim baits. I usually rig them on a jig head and fish them just like a spinner bait. The are really efficient and big bass hammer them. If it gets windy I just use a little heavier head. Can cast them a mile into a headwind if need be.

When I largemouth fish I fish a lot of Senko in the hydrilla and 10" Power Worms. Even 2 lb bass will nail a 10" worm. I'll also deadstick huge Senkos. I think they are 7" or so, but they are fat so they look like a cigar. If there are few weeds I'll wacky rig them. Throw them out and let them sink. Gotta watch the line since they get hit on the fall a lot. Let them sit as long as you can stand it. Twitch a few times and reel in slack. Repeat, it is slow and painful, but catches big fish. Before big swimbaits it used to be a popular method in CA for catching huge 10-20 lb bass off deep points. It works.

That's all for now. Don't want to bore everybody.

Pond bass fishing I like a drop shot rig with a zoom utail worm. Dark color for muddy water, natural color for clearer water. I may have only been once or twice and not caught a fish on this rig (not necessarily big fish, but if nothing else works I use it).

Texas rig senko or a trick worm is pretty hard to beat.

I sometimes have decent luck with lipless cranks.

For catfish, I've used anything from nightcrawlers to cut bait to minnows to chicken livers.

I’ve got a bunch of Lews Baitcasting reels. Two really nice Pflueger spinning reels. 2 Sixgill fishing Baitcasting reels, and a bunch of Sixgill rods both casting and spinning. Shameless plug, I’m a Prostaff member for Sixgill fishing. I promote their stuff and get a small discount for doing so.

Their reels I’m not sold on yet, I’ll be honest. But I do have the cheapest ones they make. The rods however are top notch and while the company is only 3 years old, I’ll use their rods from now on. Check them out online if you’re looking for gear. And on Facebook a page called Sixgill Anglers. They let you know about sales and promotions. They had a buy one get one on their rods in February

As for line I use 50lb power pro braid on all my casters and 8-10lb stren mono on my spinning reels.

I used to love a pink floating worm this time of year in farm ponds.

I've used them at Harris post spawn and done really well. There is a spot between the hyrdilla and the shore where bluegills and pan fish roam. Float a worm through there and things can get exciting. Good call.

I’m a big bass fisherman myself. I have a different rod/reel/line combo put together for each type of lure. I really love throwing crankbaits but like everything else they surely have a time and a place. I throw a frog and fluke/floating worm a lot and when the bite gets tough a shakes head and neko rig.

I also am a big kayak fisherman. The best advice I can give you is to go sit in them and if possible paddle them. If you know folks that have them ask to try theirs. Don’t do like I did and buy 5 before you find one you really like. I fish out of a 11.5’ Wilderness Systems Ride 115X and love it. I really need an elevated seat because we do all day river drifts frequently and that’s a long time to sit in a cheap seat. Mine is also a paddle kayak as I prefer to fish heavier current and rocky areas where the peddle drive kayaks wouldn’t want to play. I actually have 2 Ride 115’s and if you’re close to me you can tag along a day if you’d like.

I’m not a great fisherman by no means and a lot of times I just enjoy going with the family and we will all use the zebco dock demon poles from Walmart. They are about three feet long and the action sucks on them, but for my stepson it makes a little fish feel like a monster. For bass fishing I like trick worms, cheap and useful for most situations. We recently purchased a 12’ Jon boat, but also have kayaks we fish from. I have a Jackson big rig, pricey but awesome kayak. For most men a 11.5-12 foot kayak is a good size, and can be had for a few hundred dollars new. If your near me I would be glad to let you try the big rig one weekend.

Nice fish! A kayak is on my list for fishing the New River, but life has not allowed it yet. Someday.

I run Abus and Lews rods and reels. Lews are by far my favorite in 7’6” length. I like jig fishing, it won’t get numbers but it’ll catch big girls. Usually every year I’ll pick a lure type and throw it a bunch to gain some extra confidence in it. This year I’m trying to throw spinners a lot more. For line I run 50lb braid and a 12lb Floro leader.
For the last 6 months I’ve gotten heavy into fly fishing. It’s wild to throw this little fly and catch a hand sized sunfish and then catch a 3lb bass on the same lure and tiny hook. Even more fulfilling when its a fly you made yourself.
I also fish out of a kayak. Jackson Big Rig.

That's an offer You should take up !

Trying out all of them first is good advice. I sold my kayak ( both of them ) before moving to NC, like a dummy.
Had a Hobie Outback rigged for lake bass fishing / deep water salmon trolling and an Ocean Trident 15 for the coast out chasing lingcod , Kept my FF and vest, just in case I ever come across a deal on another.

I usually only fish private ponds and the Uwharrie/Yadkin lakes, but a plastic weedless worm in Junebug/Watermelon colors and drop shots off of logs gets a lunker bass every time. Chicken livers catch eating size cats.
Be there at dawn and dusk. Time to Fish app usually is pretty spot on.

That's all I got

I have about burned out on fresh water fishing but love inshore salt water fishing. I like to use a fish finder rig and finger mullet.

My favorite gear and tactics?

My open face reel, a dozen or two night crawlers, basic tackle (some hooks, sinkers, bobbers).

Then fish. Bank or boat.

Because the fishin's always good. May not catch anything, but the fishin's always good.

Without reading everything, I love Shimano and Abu Garcia spinning rods and reels price/quality are there for me without dropping too much coin, I don't think either make "junk". My light is 6' and my medium is 6'6" medium/fast or fast action. I'm pretty indifferent anymore braided or mono. Lures whatever they'll hit on, my wife thinks it's hilarious that I change lures all the time. There is no lake to big for a kayak.

If I can catch it on a fly rod, that's what I'll do. Need to get the Yak wet some this year. About time to hit a small trout stream too.

I've done a little of all of it but when I really think about it I'd rather be dropping crickets in a farm pond full of titty bream or setting limb lines on the river for catfish. I like getting back to the basics of my youth.

Where can I find TITTY bream?

Going to fish Harris tomorrow.
I'll get some pics of my rigs and what we were catching the 10 and 12 pounders on ..

:D

Shimano reels and Allstar (back when they were still made in Texas) rods.
I have a bunch of old Lew’s reels (low tech) that I love. Back when he actually made them.

Falcon rods are good. Picked up a couple 13 fishing chrome rods, they seem pretty good too.

"What are your favorite lures, rods, line, bait, and tactic for fishing for your favorite fish"
1. Heddon tiny torpedo.
2. anything 6 1/2 feet long or longer, graphite.
3. Fireline 2 lb diameter, 8 lb test.
4. Hellgrammites.
5. "fake" fly-fishing. cast waaay upstream with a floating lure.
let it drift over your selected area. tap it once and wait. jerk
it once and wait....then reel it in and get ready. Smallmouth.

A titty bream is a bream that's so big you can't hold it in your hand to get the hook out, you've gotta press it up against your titty to get hold of it. Lol
That won’t apply to Daniel. You need to see his hands

Never been, but thats what I'm hearing.
Hopefully it pans out.

Man that guy catching those two 40 pound bags last year and them killing the grass has really hurt that lake. We had a tournament there a few weeks ago and the weigh in was pitiful. I know there was a Bojangles pro am there not long ago that also had the same results. The parking lot was full of boats from WAY out of state too.

Funny thing is I was going to tell him to fish the grass. Its gone?

Hadn't been there in a while. I won a tournament there fishing nothing but the steeper red clay banks,

I finally got me an ATAK 140 in November. I’d been wanting one. I love it

I surely didn’t see any worth fishing. A couple guys in our club who also fish the bigger trails told me at weigh in that it had been killed. I honestly don’t know. I know we have some pretty good sticks in our club and most of them only brought in 1-2 fish.
