Bastards got me for 11 in a 10 at Ft Leonard Wood! Little bastard!
I had an OIC, he called everyone by their first name. So...confusing. It was comical, though.

He sound pretty laid-back.
I was holding my ID card coming in the gate at Hood after just showing to the guard. I get stopped because he thought I had my cell phone in my hand
I got a ticket for jaywalking once. Stood on a corner waiting forever for the light to change and absolutely no traffic anywhere. Finally I said "screw it!" and crossed.
Base Master at Arms guy called me over to his van and told me he was going to write me a ticket for jaywalking. Whatever, dude.
He gets done and hands me the ticket and I asked "What do I do with this?"
He said "Give it to your LPO."
I said "I am my LPO. I guess we know how far this is going to go, don't we?"
Ugh, as bad as regular MPs can be, MAs seem to be worse.

Don't forget pawn shops and dry cleaners.
Old school was the Foxy Lady and the Oki II and the Brown BaggerDon't forget pawn shops and dry cleaners.
For sure, and barber shops and tattoo shops as well, but those 4 specific pictures, are pretty much icon of Jacksonville.Don't forget pawn shops and dry cleaners.
To give them credit, at least I WAS jaywalking at the time. They used to p*ss me off a lot on paydays, though, when I was running Transient Division at COMSUBGRU-6 in Charleston.
The SOBs would wait outside the barber shop at the Exchange and ticket people for needing haircuts.
Dafuq?
I've heard some dumb shit in my time but if that's not the dumbest, it's trying to be.
So, I grew up on Lejeune (TT 1) in the early/mid 70s. Although Jacksonville had some pretty trashy places, it wasn't a bad town back then. Over the years as the strip mall grew and everything moved out and away, a lot of decent shops and restaurants closed and more and more dumps opened up.
Growing up in Fayetteville and being stationed in Jacksonville for almost my entire career so far, I never realized how awful those towns were until I moved away.
We still own a house in Hubert and I will most likely be rotating back there to do my last tour after I'm done here. I do love the Swansboro, Cedar point and Emerald isle and also Wilmington. It's sad, really.
I still love Jacksonville, warts and all, but stay away from the main areas. I prefer the Hubert/Swansboro/Snead's Ferry areas.
