I think I'd rather take a bullet than a broadhead.

I read about this yesterday.

I'd like to see a followup on this when it's all settled legally, but we rarely get to see that part. Doesn't sell. Or promote liberal media ideologies.

Reporting sucks, I want to know the poundage on the bow, weight of the arrow in grams, which broadhead (brand, fixed, number blades, mechanical), spine, length, draw length, let off, bow brand and model, distance, sight type, which pin, arrow rest type, how long till the perp bedded down. I mean seriously.

the suspect allegedly ran toward the juvenile, the boy’s family told investigators at the scene

Found a photo of the dad

The maggot was not shot because he was a thief stealing stuff. He was shot because he threatened the boy with possible bodily harm or death. Most places unfortunately do not allow you to shoot someone stealing your stuff, but I know of no place in this country that does not allow you to protect yourself against someone who makes it very obvious that they want to do you harm. The headline makes it seem as if the boy shot someone just for trying to steal something. That is, in my opinion, very poor reporting.

You are correct, poor reporting!

But, it's great reporting when you have an agenda you have to get across... SMDH...

No. It's not "poor reporting".

It's deliberately engineered reporting to support an agenda.

There's a difference.

I agree with @Geezer . That's gotta hurt. Would love to see some ballistic info of a broadhead from 10 yds.

Generally better penetration than a .22 LR. And most of my arrows have penetrated and done more damage than most of the .300 BO subs I've shot deer with. The wound channel a broadhead makes is darn near permanent. Less likely to close up than a small caliber bullet. The blades are nasty on a body. It would look less impressive in ballistic gel than a bullet, but that's because it does not work like a bullet.

The tragedy here is that the boy probably won’t get his bow back until after the season is over. And those mechanical broadheads can go for as much as $15 each. You’ll probably never get that one back. I’ll bet a lot of the thief’s victims would be willing to buy him another.

I remember watching a video demo in hunter’s safety where an arrow penetrated all the way through a five gallon bucket of sand but the same setup stopped a 30-30 round. That stuck in my head and in general every deer I’ve seen shot with one did not have the arrow still in the body.

You left out how many quivers and arrows were owned by the boy...

I think that we need to start discussing Bow control....
Heh!

Any reporting that blurs the true facts is poor reporting. The "journalists" these days all to often have an agenda that they try to promote by poor reporting. That is sad but true. This seems to be an obvious case of a "journalist" composing the report to support an agenda. The reporter may not have actually lied because the facts were eventually presented in the piece, but the composition of his report intentionally gave a false impression that something happened that did not happen.

There is a big difference between
"George finished first in the two man race with Bill."
and
"Bill finished second in the race while George finished next to last."

If he does get it back, he ought to preserve it in epoxy resin.

Make a nice paperweight.

I bet stitching that wound up would be difficult to impossible for a three or four blade head. Nasty way to go out.

I'd like to know the rest of the story. Probably never will if the family has a good attorney. Kudos to the kiddo. I'd kick in a few bucks to buy him a new bow and some arrows.
