That and the reaction rod shouldda prevented this…we’ll see after i get it torn downI…. I thought there was a pin in the barrel that lines up w/ the upper and kept it from doing that?
Hmmmmm....you're right!I…. I thought there was a pin in the barrel that lines up w/ the upper and kept it from doing that?
You can’t tighten the device back on and spin it the other way?Now the gas block and handguard are wedged together….cant get a wrench on the barrel nut OR the muzzle device…
And here i thought I’d be headed out for a hike in a few minutes….
Nope. Wedged tighter than Sister Mary James’ hair bun.You can’t tighten the device back on and spin it the other way?
Might actually be a good time to take a hike and walk away from it for a little while. Some time things work better when your not aggravated. Now the gas block and handguard are wedged together….cant get a wrench on the barrel nut OR the muzzle device…

Is that what I did wrong? I’ve always used a BEV Block before picking this rod up in a “Hot Deal” a couple weeks ago.I think reaction rod goes into vise, not upper.
The feed ramps line up with the M4 cuts quite nicely after dissasembly. So, i dont think so. But, that is the mist logical answer.Barrel extension unscrew?
I don’t have one, but if you think about the mechanics of it, you want all the stress on the barrel rather than the upper. The reaction rod transfers all the torque to the vise.Is that what I did wrong? I’ve always used a BEV Block before picking this rod up in a “Hot Deal” a couple weeks ago.
you can test that by sticking the reaction rod in the barrel alone and seeing if it’ll spin on the vise,
meh...I'm not aggravated. Perturbed, befuddled and unsettled maybe, but not aggravated.Might actually be a good time to take a hike and walk away from it for a little while. Some time things work better when your not aggravated.

and for sure use a receiver truing/lapping kit before you put the nut back on...Ouch! That'll buff right out.
way ahead of you....get yourself an all new upper.
I was trying to remove/replace the muzzle device that had been installed by previous owner. I assumed it was rocksetted into place, so I soaked it overnight. Inserted reaction rod (incorrectly, but still should've helped), clamped receiver into vise, gave the muzzle device a reasonable tug and...bam...barrel spun in the extension. I assume the extension was not properly torqued.what exactly were you doing?
were you taking apart an upper installed by somebody else?
what stage were you at?
