Thanksgiving food sucks

Why couldn’t the Indians brought a cow instead of a Turkey😎 I much rather have a hamburger and gravy than Turkey and stuffing.

Well, look at it this way:

Option 1. you have turkey one day a year and burgers the rest of the time or
Option 2. you have burgers one day a year and turkey the remainder.

I do a big ham. I figure the kids have had their fill of turkey at in-law and grandparent gatherings

I've never liked stuffing, or dressing as it's called. But with enough mashed potatoes and a good gravy, turkey becomes palatable. The trick for me is turkey on the plate first, then topped with mashed and smothered in gravy.

I pity you guys.

My son in law spatchcocked (is that how you use that word) a turkey and cooked it on his pellet smoker. It sat in 5 gal bucket of brine before that.

It was the literal star of the show yesterday.

For those who say they don't like turkey, maybe it's because of what passes for commercial turkey today.

We bought a turkey from a local farmer. It's a Heritage breed, much like a wild turkey. It was small farm raised naturally. When cooked, it's about 50% white/dark meat and doesn't have the huge bulging breast that regular ones have. It also made very little grease in the pan when roasted.

It tastes MUCH better than commercial turkey, but costs about $10/lb, which is still far less than the $30/lb steak I saw last weekend.

The people I have always surround myself with on thanksgiving day year after year surprise me with the turkey. I’m not a big turkey fan but my dad can cook one hell of a turkey on his grill and my girlfriend can bake one that’s just a juicy. Other than that I won’t usually eat turkey any other time.

I am not a big fan of turkey or the traditional Thanksgiving dishes. I tried for years to get my family to have an Italian or Mexican potluck instead but no one could be convinced.

The best use I have found for leftovers the day after is to reheat the dark meat turkey is a pan with beef tallow and mushrooms.

There are no rules..... do what you want and be happy. One year I made meatloaf and mashed potatoes, we loved it. We've had Lexington style BBQ, steaks at Christmas, etc.

Come on man, buck the system!!

I agree that dry turkey sucks. If you have to add a lubricant so you can swallow the turkey then you're doing it wrong.

I don’t eat turkey since it represents illegal invaders. It’s not thanksgiving day.

It’s slave traders invaded and massacred my people day.

Food:
Put it in front of my face and get yer hands out of the way quickly, if you know what’s good for you.

I am a grateful eater. My mom raised me with constant reminders of the poor kids starving in China. Plus, my sister was a picky pain in the a$$ eater. I endeavored to be the opposite. Don’t even like being at the same table as someone whining about food. Makes me want to start a food fight by throwing awful beets at their face.
But instead, I choke those beets down AND I LIKE IT DAMMIT.

I agree. Should be eliminated. Labor Day as well because working is not even necessary to live.

My mom got a a guy to deliver a fired turkey. Moist and tender? Check and check. Favorfull? No, might as well have been eating moist and tender card board. One other positive note, first trukey dark meat I ever thought was fit to eat. I dont get excited about Turkey day for many reasons. I'd rather have Smithfield Chicken and BBQ large combo with tater puddin and slaw puddin. We do a brined turkey breast about every 2 weeks and when my wife's not looking or just wants me to cook, I cover the turkey breast in fatty bacon.

We has Mississippi Pot Roast this year because it cooks in a crockpot and we have our kitchen all 'tore up due to kitchen renovation. Was DELICIOUS! Usually have turkey and ham. When the gravy, stuffing and rice are gone, I'm done with turkey.

For the first time in 15 years my wife didn't cook Thanksgiving dinner. We went to a friend's house to eat. The last 4 days I have been going through Turkey Withdrawal. No bird, dressing, GBC, cranberry sauce. " The Horror "

We're still working on finishing it (the turkey) off! Thanksgiving is more like an octave for us, it seems (two people and an 11-pound turkey).

I tend to forget that I eat turkey all year because I use ground turkey for tacos and I eat tacos like every other week. I also eat lots of turkey sandwiches, almost every day I have one at lunch. The non-ground or thinly sliced Thanksgiving variety generally sucks though. As stated previously, the other fixings are what make the meal.

“Why couldn’t the Indians brought a cow instead of a Turkey.?”
Just a guess here but I suspect “stuffing” an 1100 lb. steer is cost prohibitive and extremely labor intensive….
