I’m relatively unfamiliar with what a good and durable LPVO is, I’m seeing good things about the Sig Tango-MSR and the Votex Strike Eagle, but are they durable? I want something that follows the K.I.S.S. thought process and is durable enough to with reasonable care be able to handle the elements and prolonged/extraneous use, I want one that’s 1x to 8x, but a 1x to 6x would work as well if it has good build quality, just want to be able to semi reliably reach 400-500 yards, do you guys have any recommendations?

Budget? IMO, you start getting into "OK" reliability in the $600-$1000 range, "pretty darn good" in the $1200+ range, and "duty grade" in the $1600+ range.

Vortex has a great warranty, but the Strike Eagles seem to have a relatively high failure rate.

I have been very impressed with the Gen 2 Viper 1-6. No problem out to 700 with that setup.

The prices on these seem to be coming down below $500 lately.

The Gen 2 is far superior to the Gen 1. I have both.

This is on a 3 gun rifle that gets thrown around. I don’t abuse it, but I don’t baby it.

I’ve got a Steiner 1-4 that’s been good. But I haven’t really beaten up on it. They seem to be well respected though.

Only issue with the P4Xi is the price. Back when you could get one with an ADM mount for $499, it was the ticket. MIL/LEO pricing on the T6Xi 1-6 is great but it’s also heavy. Otherwise it’s very pricy and for the same money you can get an NX8 1-8

The Eotech Vudu 1-6x FFP is on sale at EuroOptic for $799 and no question is a great optic. Normal price is $1330, so it’s a heck of a sale. I’d pull the trigger on this now if I was in the market for an LPVO

Viper Gen 2 1-6 is great but heavy IMO

I am incredibly impressed with the Primary Arms PLXc 1-8x. So much so that I traded away the Night Force NX8.

The one I linked above is just one of the reticles they offer. And, if you're patient you can catch one of their 12% off sales they tend to run every other month or so.

You can still get a great deal on the P4Xi 1-4, but only with the G1 reticle. I went that route on my SBR, but I omitted it since it was only a 1-4.

Do you have a link to the Vudu? I don't see any models on sale for under $999 including the demos and SFP models.

Please talk me into one of these. I am struggling with a scope for a Ruger SFAR. I was settled on a NF NX8, then was positively going with a Leupold Mark 5 and now I’ve been sold on the PA PLXc. I like the PA’s reticle better than NF or Leupold, I like the option of capped or uncapped elevation turret, and the weight of it has me sold alone. I have like a $500 credit at Cabelas, so I could get the NX8 or Mark 5 for right at $1500.

My problem is buying a $1500 scope from a company that makes their living selling $600 scopes. Also, I’m not sure an SFAR is worthy of a $2K scope. I’m leaning hard towards the PA, help me make up my damn mind.

Edit: it would help if there was a store front that had one to see and hold.

It truly is an awesome piece of gear. Takes a beating, clear glass, good reticle. TERRIFIC eyebox compared to the NF.

If you haven’t made up your mind, have a look at US Optics TS line of LPVO. They have great glass and and are about half price of the others. I run the 1x8 FFP with JNG reticle. For the money it’s hard to beat. If you decide that you want one give me a pm. I can give you a discount code that will save you about 25% off price.

I just sprung for a Tango MSR 1-6 FFP. We'll see if it's any good or ends up in BST. The reviews are positive relative to price for the SFP model, yet there's not much out there on the FFP model so it's an experiment for sure. I've read that some people believe this to be made in the same Chinese factory that builds the Vortex Strike Eagle and this is probably just a rebrand of that with caps and mount included. If that's true I think it's going to be perfect for my application.

If you'd like to do a side by side with a Strike Eagle, let me know. I changed my M400 over to an Eotech Vudu and have the SE just hanging around for now as a backup.

I picked up an Eotech VUDU 1-8 here on the forum for a fair price. Excellent piece of glass...

Is the SE FFP?

The Tango MSR FFP arrived. Light transmission is just acceptable. Everything I can say about it is prefaced "for the price". The glass is fine, not good or great, just good enough. I think I like the reticle. Eye box gets tight above 4x. I'll be getting it sighted in on Friday and competition is Saturday. Overall I'm happy.

This is a good review that gives all the needed info on the PA Plx 1-8. By all means it's a great scope. It's popular for a reason. Personally I'm holding out for the model they discussed at Shot Show this year (though really I want a Vortex Razor 1-10 or a Nightforce ATACR 1-8 more). They're in the works for putting a version of the PLx out that uses their NOVA fiber wire reticle to give the PA that much brighter illumination. I have a NF NX8 (I've actually got it listed for sale here: https://carolinafirearmsforum.com/i...h-scalarworks-1-93-30mm-leap-08-mount.164222/ ), and the one thing the NX8 absolutely slaps the competition on is reticle brightness with its fiber wire reticle. That's a special thing NF has currently that most optic companies don't, due to insider business partnerships. At 1x the NX8 is an absolutely fantastic scope. The PA PLx is an awesome scope too though, and once they get their NOVA illumination in it, it will absolutely be among the best scopes on the market. It already is really, but it'll be that much better, because in every other respect, the current PLx 1-8 outperforms the NF NX8. I will warn that the NF NX8 1-8 has a super tight eyebox above 6x. The absolute main thing the PA does better is its eyebox is more forgiving, especially for the compact size class it inhabits. If everything else matters more to you and you gotta have it now, go ahead and buy the PLx 1-8. But if you want a red dot daylight-bright reticle at 1x and you gotta have it now, currently the NF NX8 is the better buy.

Also, don't bother with the Vortex Strike Eagle. Those are the most-broken scopes that run through courses taught by Apex Defense Group. It's gotten to the point they feel it's not if, but when, a Strike Eagle will break.

For what it's worth, if you are interested in my NX8 I'd let you look through it and see if it'd work for you before committing to buying it. I think it with the Scalarworks mount is a great combo for the SFAR, with all three items being focused around being lightweight. But that's just me.
