What did you do in the reloading room today?

Loaded up the last 1008 grains of my VV 3N38 powder under some 124gr Xtreme projectiles for the USPSA match at ant hill tomorrow. Gonna have to switch to Accurate #7 now as I came across an 8lb jug at a price I couldn't turn down. Only down side to #7 being its quite a bit dirtier, shoots just as nice and accurate though.

Also got confirmation my scales and auto drum powder measure are exceptionally reliable and repeatable. At 8.2 gr per case comes out to 122.9 rounds of ammo for that last 1008 grains of powder. Round 122 was good, round 123 was a little short, so dumped it. It wasn't short enough to be a squib, would of fired just fine, but probably wouldn't have been major PF, can't be cheating you know. :D:D:D

View attachment 32320 Sorted some range brass. Good mix. Lots of 45acp and 223. 9mm, 40, 308, 30-06, 7.62x39, 357sig, 44mag, 44spl, a couple 357mag, some 38spl, couple 300blk, 30-30, and 50ae. I have more than one mag full of 50ae, so I need to buy something in that caliber now.
Someone nice must have gave that to you???

Got part of my xtreme black friday order in. Loaded up some 115's with 3.6, 3.8, 4.0, and 4.2 of W231. Going to test them in the PPQ and my PCC. Probably won't run them in the PPQ, but they may find some use in the PCC for steel challenge.

edit - i'm open to suggestions for light shooting 9mm loads out of a PCC. Doesn't need to make PF b/c of steel challenge. I have 115gr, 124gr, 135gr, and 147gr to play with.

Worked on sorting presses, it seems that I’m working towards one of each, but it isn’t intentional!

Hornady ammo plant and Lee 1000 just don’t fit on the wall.

Quality time with the Dillon :D

Loaded rounds for 1862 Springfield and 1858 Smith

Yesterday I learned shoving 40 brass through a gutted Lee FCD backward on a 9mm bullet sizing spud does a much better job of restoring it than going mouth first like they say you should with a Bulge Buster kit, less effort and zero rejects.

Today I moved the LnL off my little bench to a repurposed desk. Got room back for the loading blocks and improved access to my powder measure when playing with rifle. Now I need to get the 357Sig, 300BLK, and 30-06 cases out of the blocks.

Set up the case feeder I got for Christmas.

Rolled a couple hundred 40S&W with the remnants of my PC'd Lee 175s, goes pretty quick just setting bullets, we'll see about cutting that out in the new year maybe.

Post Christmas cleaning day here. My only day off this week after Monday’s shenanigans. I’ve got my priorities in place as you can see where I started this task. Please excuse the redacted post Christmas nightmare of toys and packaging in the next room.

Not really a reloading project, but I did it on my reloading bench... Does that count? Modified my Ka bar TDI sheath to mount a Safariland ELS QD Mount. Cut the spring clip off, drilled new holes to the backer, and BAM. Works like a charm. Mounted behind my firearm on my Safariland drop leg holster.

I’m kicking myself for not going that route when I got my mount for the loadmaster. Although. There is still room on the other side of the bench to add one. Would like to combine it with the Lee mount and be able to use wood blanks to swap for little things like grind/polish wheel and small vise for little jobs. Not sure I want to have to buy a plate for each of those smaller bench mounted items. And in all reality I don’t use my single stage or turret press since getting my loadmaster running right.

Sat my newly acquired pound of IMR target and 1000 plated 124gr 9mm pills on the bench, then waited for them to magically bond to some brass. Im still waiting. Anybody tried any of the new IMR pistol flavors out yet? Target is between titegroup and bullseye on the chart but in Hodgdon data it seems to be a bit more economical than TG with less pressure.

Sorted and culled several hundred perfecta and gfl head stamps. I have a box full of these things from range pick up that I won't use due to so many offset flash holes..... It's a shame to cause both head stamps are pretty consistent weight and length wise.

Then loaded 500 plinker 55g .223 fodder, in premature excitement of getting some heavies for the new barrel. I need 15 more mags to fill my current ammo can plus the 450 rds to fill said mags....

Stared at the single stage .308 setup but after the puppy disaster I still haven't redone the ladder loads for it...

Ok so got a late evening jolt of energy so theres this

Oh boy, I've done more loading in the last couple of days than I have done in a while. I loaded 600 rounds of 45acp 200gn plated, over Nitro 100NF powder. 300 rounds of 9mm 125gn Zero HP, and 200 rounds 124gn plated, both over BE86. And then I did 200 rounds of 40 155gn plated, over Silhouette powder. It has been close to 2 years since I loaded any 40. I also wet tumbled about 1000 pcs of 9mm brass. I have to make room for the 110 lbs of bullets coming from Xtreme, that I ordered on Black Friday. Supposed to arrive middle of next week. Almost 6 weeks.

I picked up a pound of Target a while back, mine hasn't magically loaded itself, either. :(

I'm still waiting on part of my xtreme order from black friday. the 147gr 9mm's. I ordered one of each of their 9mm to do some testing - 115, 124, 135, 147.

Between TG and BE? Unpossible, there's no room there.
Sounds like something I'll be trying/cramming in the cabinet.

yeah the new Hodgdon reloading mag is touting the IMR powders' magical properties. Looks like they are going after Alliant's color dot powders, bullseye, and unique with these offerings.

IMR target looked the most appealing to me, mainly due to the lower pressure potential at similar speeds. OH and the fact that 1lb = 16oz and not 14oz like some of the other stuff IMR is touting. WTF.

I did this today. Think my timing got off and I tried to force a primer out. Bent that sucker right over. Not sure what I need to order - guess I'll call Hornady on Tuesday.

I hate when that happens. You wait weeks to get quality time in the loading room; you were probably operating at a good rhythm; at peace with the world; and then this. You are so happy with life, that surely nothing will interfere, so you add "a little more pressure". That doesn't get it, sooooooo, "a little more pressure" and the next thing you know you have created instant modern art, ending you session and necessitating a mandatory 5 day waiting period for your new part.

The last time I did it, my son starting laughing, and I fired "the look" at him. His only comment was. "Dad, I have heard all of those words before, just never used in a single sentence - and it made sense!"

Once the part is identified, I highly recommend the purchase of two of them.

Looks like you just need a zip spindle, and maybe the primer punch/pin, expander looks ok. The dies used to come with spare primer pins.

I think last time I did that they sent me a spare as well, mine was straight abuse, I tried to hammer out a stuck case, busted the expander as well, told them all of it and they didn't charge me a dime. If you have other Hornady dies you can swap the spindle to get rolling again.

It's pain to get right, but might want to go a little lighter on the collet nut next time.

Darn tough to build reloading equipment that is tougher than most reloaders, but at least Hornady knows their customer and has set up their business to accommodate them well. In fact, most reloading equipment companies seem to understand our compulsion to "use a bigger rock".

A bit chilly this morning, but I finally got a chance to chronograph some service rifle loads for my new competition rifle. When working up this new load, it happened to be the same as my old service rifle load, but MAN... this load is just zipping along.

Nosler 77gr CC
22.4gr Alliant ARCOMP
CCI400 primer
Winchester brass
AVG = 2780 fps with an SD of 13

Both rifles have 20" Wilson 1-7 tubes with Wylde chambers. The old rifle shot this same load around 2720 fps.
