Well, now I want a 1911 .45!

A .45 doesn't have to be a 1911. The Sig P220 is an excellent design as well.
Yeah, I know....but they look so great!! Lol.
But I'll add the Sig to the mix, seeing how much I love mine!
The coach might not be happy with this little diversion in my training he's caused, though. The whole 1911 thing is his fault, really.....

Come to Charleston SC, we’ll go out to my property and you can run a few hundred rounds through it.
Wow, everything is far from where I live, isn't it? Dang!
Well, I've never been to Charleston, at least that I remember....

I prefer Sigs and HKs over all other platforms, and while the 1911 is a tried and true design, I'm most accurate with the HK45's without any training to switch to a different platform. The HK45C is another great option, and HK claims their recoil mitigation helps tame recoil for the .45.

Ask @NKD about the Kimber Ultra that I bought from him:D:D:D:D:D
I love it, shoots like silk. Very soft recoil.
I wonder what NKD stands for?;)

Yep I like my 45c. But for looks and range use the 1911 is hard to beat in a 45. My 45c is not the hot chick at the bar.

Don't get me wrong, I'd rock a 1911, but if I'm adding another to the stable, it'll likely be the hot chick at the bar.

BTW, I'd opt for the Sig 1911's as I prefer their external extractor. Non-traditional, I know, but I don't like the idea of having to tension the extractor when failures start.

But that external exteactor thingy is like putting a bunch of baggy clothes the hot chick. Once you do that she may be perfectly functional, but she’s no longer the hot chick. :D

Hence why I would go with the HK45/HK45C

I have a 45 because they don’t make a 46.
They should. And if they ever do, there’s already a .46 silencer on the market.

Only gun I’ve ever sold that I still miss!
That’s a good gun. Thing is accurate as hell too.

I keep thinking about the HK45 but have no real use and it is a big gun. Same deal with a CZ 97. Really want one but it is a handful.
Maybe opt for the USP45 then? No frills, but also not as good looking.

We have every variation here from 3 1/2 inch to 6 inch. All are free to shoot. I'm starting to wonder why I keep trying to get you here.
I'm coming down there, I swear! Lol. Don't get your feelings hurt, I rarely go anywhere farther than Aberdeen.....but I'll be down there. Just give me a minute to figure out the stuff I have going on.

Millie, my wife loves my Springfield LBO. She didn't like the TRP as much because of the checkering on the front. I also have a Colt Officer model and a Kimber Master Ultra Carry. Trying to figure out which one I want to try for carry now.

I carry the LBO currently but with chemo making me weak it is getting a little tough.

Every lady in my house loves to shoot my Gov't model 1911 .45s, but none of them want to carry it.

BTW I have and will carry a full size 1911 on occassion. It depends on A. your belt and B. your holster

Get you a fat boy belt from @gunbelt and you can carry crew-served weapons with the right holster.

I will say what I always say when people ask what should I get for my first 1911. Get a Colt 70 series Govt model. Shoot shoot shoot it until you are intimate with the 1911 platform in its basic form. I am talking 5,000 + rounds.

Once you are familiar with the basic platform you can then customize it or properly spec the next one from a position of knowledge and experience. Most shooters don’t need all the bells and whistles but they are told they do so they get them without ever understanding why they have them. IMHO

$384 is too much money and you want a 45?
I must have made a boo boo...I've seen pics of some in the high hundreds, so maybe I replied to the wrong one....it happens, as I'm not perfect! Lol.
Can't find the expensive one I was looking at, a Kimber or something.

Well, I'm really not planning to carry this one. It's the living room gun, and also it will be taken to the range....a lot!

Also, I hate belts, though in my training next time I've been told I need to wear one, as we're doing holster stuff! That should be interesting! Maybe I can get used to a belt eventually?

If you want to drool over expensive, try this; the cheapest model is $3,695.

Not sure I even want to go there...let me think on it a bit.....lol.

Now why would you torment an old lady with such lovely and sexy guns??? That's just not a nice thing to do!
But holy moly....nice stuff!
Now I'm going to go put my head in the pillow and cry a bit.....

I google-ized you suggestion...wow, pretty but not in my price range...at all!

The Sig Ultra is a really nice piece, I Love mine

I'll have to research that one, I've never heard of it.
I love the Sig I do have though, so.....lol.

Ok, way nice and way out of the price range....but thanks.

Best advice YET!!!!!

Millie, I'm short and "chubby" and 72 but I carry a full-size S&W 1911 all the time. I carry it concealed under a jacket or loose sweater or just an overshirt like a Hawaiian shirt in the summertime. Been carrying it for about 10 years now since I got it to replace my S&W Model 19 with 3" barrel that I carried for years until I put it away when I no longer needed to carry it everyday. Pulled it out on 9-11-01 for daily carry and then got the 1911 in .45 with Crimson Trace grips since my eyes aren't as good as they used to be. Yes, both guns are heavy, but they reduce the felt recoil at the range. My wife has a .38 airweight that she hates to shoot because of the felt recoil. She loves my 1911 and shoots it well. All of my holsters are paddle holsters from Wild Bill's in Garner, NC. If you're considering the carry weight then buy a light pistol because you WILL NOT notice the recoil if you have to use it in a life or death situation. I recently bought a Kimber micro 9 with CT grips to carry around the house since it's smaller and lighter on my old body. I'd also take up Battery Oaks Billy on his offer. It would be worth it for you to make the trip down there. I've never been and don't know him, but from the reports of others on this forum he's the real deal. Good luck. As others have said: once you buy ONE...…….. :)

I'm actually not considering a .45 for a carry gun, as I'm very happy with my current one. I just want one because I've enjoyed shooting one a few times. It would be my gun for the living room. But you never know what I might do, so....thanks for the info.
As to Billy's invite....I'm going to make the trek soon! I'm sure he'll have a lot of information to impart, and I'm looking forward to it, as I've heard great things about his place, and his and his wife's hospitality! Once I get past the holidays, I'm going to find out when is a good time to go check it out.

Millie, I am confused. We were talking about a kitchen gun now a living room gun. You are fitting in well. A gun in every room.
Lol.
Why are you so confused? Do I not have the right to be able to blow away a bad guy in any room in the house? LOL.
Now all I'll need is a hall gun, then I'll be covered pretty well, I think....
I have the KelTec in the bathroom, the revolver in the kitchen, the .45 will go in the living room, the p238 is on my person, and maybe a .22 for the hall? That should cover things very nicely, no? Lol. I think I got the hang of this gun thing now.....

Millie, you need a shotgun for the hallway. 20 GA pump works with a cylinder bore.
