We saw this morning, we liked it. Not as good as some but definitely better than some of the others. It did a good job of tying up some loose ends, even had an homage to some of the other movies.
This what I keep hearing and why I won't go watch it. Heard tons of plot holes, Mary Sue Rey, and undoes the point of 1-6 entirely.I thought it was the worst of the bunch.
Rogue One at the top of the list
The Force Awakens/The Last Jedi/Solo tied for next
Rise of Skywalker well below those
I didn’t think it was wrapped up as a series even close to as complete as Avengers. If you put End Game at a 10, RoS would be lucky to be in the 3-4 range.
Wife went back today and liked it more than the first time.
Went and saw it only because someone else paid....
sucked. To much stuff just pulled out of the air for the story...
I like rogue one and I love the Mandalorian, so I’m not adverse to new Star Wars. But these last 3 are just trash.
I agree, I was not a big fan of comics growing up. I did not know all marvel stories before the movies. But I feel like I know more about the marvel characters then I do all these new Star Wars characters. This is where star wars fails and marvel excels. Years of material to flesh out the story, star wars discards (I'll concede most wasn't truly canon in the sense that lucas wrote it himself), whereas marvel embraces it.
Saw it Saturday...saw Jumanji 2 Sunday and can’t remember half of what was in Star Wars now...that’s how much I liked SW!
It was a joke and they’ve turned the force into a joke. Rey didn’t finish the training course......of running through the jungle jumping over trees...and yet she was hovering in mid-air with stones floating all around??? I love that she struggled climbing on things but could jump an entire canyon, even with incomplete training...
Just a couple of the “stupids” I can remember. Throwing popcorn at my son kept us both awake throughout it!
Good points.Luke never completed his training either before he fought Darth Vader. Anakin was a strong force user as a Padawan at Obi Wan's side capable of using the force in some ways better than his master. The Force has always been somewhat of a joke. Alec Guiness referred to it as "Big part. Fairy-tale rubbish but could be interesting perhaps."
I think people look back at the original Star Wars with rose colored glasses on. It was an amazing movie for its time. It set the benchmark for Science Fiction on the big screen but it was just a spaghetti western based on a Samari Tale set in space. It was not a new story. I personally think the public expects too much of these films.

Now, to drag out this needlessly long post, I think part of the issue with the new movies is basically me growing older. When I was a kid I was more accepting of things because I didn't know/care about details as much. Now, as an adult things like bombs falling down in space is dumb...bombers in general having bomb bays is dumb, ramming ships at other ships is a silly solution, flicking a "We will just throw the force in here" seems lazy, and pretty colors and fancy CGI isn't as impressive as good acting and a deep emotional connection with a character. To this day, Mando looking at the little knob in his cockpit, and then going back for baby yoda exceeds the emotional pull of any of the actors in any of the new movies. So...maybe I am just an old fart now.
That’s exactly what made the new ones so bad...I know Rey’s training scene was supposed to be a nod at the original but it just made it more of a joke, and not in a good way (this was just one example). I think the original 3 aren’t necessarily great “movies” and are a simple story in concept, as you stated above, but were good for the time. Knowing what it took to make those is what makes them great. The next 3 (ep 1-3) were just Lucas going crazy with CG and special effects. The last 3 have just been rushed, unoriginal, SWJ crap and the completion of a money making effort for Disney. I enjoy simple “spaghetti westerns” and don’t have a high bar set for what is “entertaining”, but these fall well short of hitting acceptable marks in those categories.
I disagree in that it is the expectations that set up the failure. Look at the language you are using to describe the film. There is a huge bias contained in your comments which IMHO taints your ability to simply enjoy them. It is not a judgement on your viewpoint but you cannot take the bias out of the equation. Disney is in the business to make money I am not sure why that is viewed as a negative.
I did not love the new ones but I liked them for what they are.
I think Booger said it better about the force becoming laughable and the over dependence on CGI having a negative impact on these. I certainly don’t have an especially rosy look on the originals either...Spaceballs was much better than any of them!
Not a negative that Disney makes money...they seem to have rushed and pushed these movies out to cash in at the expense of a decent story and execution.
Just watched it. The above says it all. Still much better than the last one !I enjoyed it, mostly because I walked in wanting to enjoy it. Some plot holes. A plot that had no cohesion other than tying up loose ends from previous movies.
Still fun.
Just saw it this afternoon, and my wife and I asked the same thing. So with a name like The "rise" of skywalker do we believe this is the end?

Overall, it was enjoyable. Every franchise is going to have bad, good, and great parts and I’d classify this as good. Of course it’s still full of the SJW crap. All males are a dufus or secondary at best, mixed raced relationships made the norm, and even having lesbians kissing at the end. Typical behavior from Hollyweird these days.
Sounds like she's a real idiot...
