Hello, My Name is Tim and...

between the #%)##)$%( gas block roll pin and firing pin retainer cotter pin, I'm fixing to chuck this build in the #%$)%)#) dump.

I’m seriously tempted to apply some heat and just snap this thing off in it.

That high end Aero stuff you be chucking out too! Ive been that mad. Im getting ready to pull cylinder sleeves in a Farmall sleeves that havent been touched since 1959. Im sure I will be angry. Im moving all the hammers and large crowbars.

Do you not have a set of roll pin starters?

i agree on the firing pin retention cotter pin, there must be a better way!

A nice set of Grace punches and starters will make all your woes go away.

oh, I have proper roll pin starters, punches etc. I’ve assembled dozens of these things.

Sometimes shit happens.

Aaaaaaannnnnnndddddddd.....we’re done.

Tore down my 300BLK to rebuild on a lefty upper. Built this one out of that upper receiver and BCG plus spares that I had around. Lower is a “blem” Aero I picked up on sale a couple weeks ago.

Basic 16” 5.56. Nothing fancy.

How does a roll pin (or any other pin for that matter) retain the gas tube in the gas block?

This is why I'll never buy another lower that doesn't have the threaded mag catch pin. Also, they must have integrated trigger guard. Eliminates two stupid roll pins.
M4E1 lower FTW.

Next time try using a pinser tipped set of vice grips to compress the pin.

Gas tube is solid on the end and has a hole that the roll pin goes through when you drive it through the gas block

Edit : Tim beat me by 5 seconds

@Tim what did you use to label inside the dust cover, I like that idea!

I bought the port door online a few years ago. It’s engraved vs labeled. I need to swap it out tonight as that upper was rebuilt in 5.56.

It’s been really handy as I have nearly identical SBRs setup in .223 and 300, so it could be easy to get them mixed up.

I see what your problem was. You were using a right handed hammer and punch on a left handed roll pin. :D
