The new High Power thread has me thinking about why these are now becoming popular. We hav the S&W Metal, FN high Power, Sig P320-x5 to name a few. What is the appeal? Am I missing out on something?

Yup, I have a CZ 75 SP01 tactical, and its been awesome. For me, the larger metal framed firearms feel more solid than their polymer counterparts. The weight, heft, and feel of them suits me better.

I also don’t subscribe that they specifically are getting any more popular than normal, it’s just all gun saws are expanding and the tide rises all boats.

I can see them going after the CZ market share. They are great pistols and have bee consistently popular for decades.

Uhhhh, the Sig Xten is neither a metal gun nor 9mm.

I only have plastic guns. But I want some metal ones. For longevity if nothing else. Not sure if that plastic will degrade after a long amount of time or what.

We will all be long dead by the time your “plastic” gun degrades.

Depends on what you mean by high capacity. I have some metal frame Girsan and Arex pistols (clones of beretta 92 and Sig 226) that hold 17-20 rounds respectively depending on what magazine I have in at the time, but if I have to compete with that drum equipped Smith earlier in this thread I’m gonna come up short.

The ones that weigh significantly more shoot very pleasantly. The aluminum alloy ones that only add a couple ounces don't make a lot of sense to me. In theory the more rigid frame should be more repeatable and able to lock up tighter resulting in greater accuracy, but would require tight tolerances and great qc, or smithing to achieve.

They all were metal, then I think HK came up with plastic frames. Plastic caught on, but after 40 years of competing plastic, I can only guess that enough people wanted a 'change', so back to metal. I remeber holding a Walther Q4 for the time and was impressed with the feel of the metal.

change for the sake of change? might be on to something there...

I have a couple. They are great range guns, and I do OWB carry them on occasion. They are excellent at everything except concealment. But you could conceal and carry them if you wanted to do so.

Sig P228…accepts standard-capacity magazines that will accomodate 13 cartridges.

More weight less felt recoil? At least that is my experience.
Agreed -
The Rock Island Tac Ultra Full-size HC is a good example.
I really enjoy owning and shooting them. A lot less felt recoil, in my experience too.
Also, you can beat the hell out of anything with this monster, empty (2.7lbs) if your that bad of a shot, or don’t wanna waste the ammo.

I own a few. As others have stated heavier guns should in theory be flatter shooters with less recoil, more pleasant to shoot and theoretically better tighter tolerances from properly fitted metal parts.

CZ Shadow 2
Beretta LTT and Wilson 92 Brig Tac
Browning Hi Powers
Sig P226
CZ 75B
CZ 75 SAO

So the latest crop of re-imagined wonder 9s are metal framed with chunky slides, big levers, cheap grips and no modern features like rails or optics cuts?

What's old is new again, and Bill Ruger can spin in his grave knowing a mere peasant has a pistol that holds more than 10!

Smells like the 80s in here just from opening the box.

Those things were tanks. Ugly as sin but were excellent in the reliability realm.

Still not a metal gun.
all steel Sig Sauers: P226 Elite (and some others); P226 X5; P210.
there is a tendency today to produce high quality all steel guns. I think people are tired from plastic minimalism.
Walther PPQ Q5 steel frame; Beretta High Performance (some other collectible models); FN High Power; Sig Sauer X5 (4 & 6); new Sig P210; all sport clones of CZ 75; all top 1911's etc.
all those guns might be too heavy for carrying, but are extreme shooters.

I edc a cz p01 because it's sexy. 15 round mags and run 19s as a backup. Not sure if you consider this a metal high cap gun. I have all the cgw goodness in it. Much better trigger in SA than my 5" m&p "duty" gun and is considerably sexier. I mean just look at it. Even with love handle dust sitting on dirty Duluth pants in the world market parking lot this thing is drop dead gorgeous.

I’m not tracking why you quoted me?? Are you tracking? Seems that you’re not…

I consider the P01 and the P228 as compacts because they are shorter barrel versions of larger guns.

Still a solid offering. I have an all steel version. It shoots better than my aluminum P01 mainly due to the extra weight.
