I'm going to start carrying a 10mm semi-auto for social work whilst on woods walks and whenever I feel the compact 9mm doesn't fit the plan-of-the-day.

Suggestions for a good load? I'm not skinning' grizz...just fending off the hordes of meth heads and soccer moms.

I'll prefer control over the latest diesel engine block buster.

What I started using was the Sig ammo for 10mm. Both their FMJ and V-Crown HP clock in at the same fps around 1250. That way, I am practicing with the same load as JHP rounds. my 0.02

You could buy whatever JHP round the stores have and be more than fine, but if you really want to take advantage of 10mm you will need to go with something from Buffalo bore or double tap.

I keep these in mine. I can't attest to their ability to stop a threat, but they sure did tear up a locust post.
I've heard Underwood is a lot more honest about their ballistics than DT. I can vouch for them being top notch in QC and CS.

Unless something has changed in the past few years most factory loaded 10mm is basically loaded to “hot” .40 pressures, I know the stuff we tested a couple of years ago showed this to be true anyways, I don’t remember all the ammo we put over a chrono but most of the 180gr 10mm hollow points ran maybe 1100-1150 fps.

The Underwood ammo exceeded the advertised velocity between 2-3% out of a G20 and the G40 was a bit higher, I remember seeing 1300-1320 FPS with the Underwood Gold Dot and XTP projectiles.

The 135 & 200 gr fmj ammo was a hoot to shoot as well, I think the 135s are pushing 1600 fps!

Tim, your make the most reasonable case for the 40 S&W I've heard yet. :D

I like diesel engine block busters for all 10mm uses.

I dunno...the .40s I’ve shot in the past were very snappy whilst the 10mm seem more pushy.

I'm just wastin' bandwidth... choot what's yer pleasure. :D

I love 10mm, even when it's toned down. A friend convinced me that 41 magnum is the perfect revolver cartridge.
I agree, and I think 10mm is the perfect semi-auto pistol cartridge.

My 10mm hand loaded with 200 gr hard cast lead is a monster load... and like some have said 135 nosler hp at 1600 fps is sweet!!!

I'm late here but the Underwood 165's will do all you need and then some.
