First time loading 300 BO in such a lightweight bullet. I am using the Barnes 110 solid cooper hunting bullets over 18.4 gns of 296. Manuel says it should be around 2000 ft/sec. I am excited about trying them but at the price of the bullets, it is not going to be a mag dump round.

My son's hunting round was 125 grain in 300BO. It was just under 2100FPS. With the right powder you should be able to get good speed.
What length barrel is he running. I have a SBR 9.5 and 16". Not sure how they will do with the short barrel.

Oh nice! I use 110gr V-Max bullets for my 300blk myself. :D My 10.5" 300blk likes them spicy - pushed by 19.2gr of H110 over a CCI #41 primer. No pressure signs though and 100% reliability, while absolutely stacking rounds at just under 1moa precision. Rocking 2235fps reading from a chronograph 11' from the muzzle. :)

The only crimp that I put on the 300 BO is a lite taper crimp. The 300 brass is costly and a PIA to make. Ther oll crimp will cut down on the number of reloads that you can get out of a piece of brass. I really do not consider the 300 to be shot for accuracy. At 50 yards, if I am in close to a 2 +/- MOA, I am OK.

I use the Lee factory crimp, it’s not a roll crimp, but presses the brass in 4 places.
I went that route specifically in case a 300BLK got mixed with 5.56.

If you are using TSX or the Blue tip versions, then you can run around 19/WW 296, this gives you around 2355 fps at 16 inches at 10.5 inches anything from 2160 to 2250 depending on the gun/barrel..........This runs around 53000 PSI........

The best Barnes version for 300 BLK is the Barnes 110 TAC, it is designed for 300 BLK and proves it both loading and terminals. I use 19.5/WW 296 for 2405-2425 in 16 inches of gun and 2250 in 10.5 inches, 2200 in 8.5 inches......... 56000 PSI, just a tad over my limits of 55000 PSI for these type guns.....

I run nothing but WW 296........

Both Barnes bullets are very good, accurate, and terminally serious..... The only thing that beats them is the 100 FB Raptors.......... for accuracy/terminals.................

Thanks Michael! So, I am thinking that I was close with 18.4 gn of 296 guessing 2000 ft/sec They were showing much over the 18.5 was a compressed load. I have something about reloading any round that is compress.

That is one bad mf bullet.

The Barnes 110 TAC has been my bullet of choice for Eastern NC deer hunting for the past 3 years. Heart/lung shots have been impressive inside 120 yards and I shot one in the head last week paced off at 235. I would not hesitate one bit to use this bullet combo on a human sized target at home defense ranges.

Nothing at all wrong with compressed loads, I have some loads in the big bores that are so compressed, if not extremely carefully the case bulges.

I keep pressures to around 55000 psi in most common semi platforms, 19-19.5 gr with most any 110 gr bullet is at or just under that, and completely safe........My 110 TAC load is just above 55000, so I will work with that.......

I too much prefer the Barnes 110 TAC in 300 BLK over all other 110 gr bullets........ It is the very best conventional bullet for 300 BLK..........
