1911 in 9mm

I finally got my full sized Ronin 9mm a few months ago after searching forever for one. I wanted the weight of the steel frame and longer slide of the 5" with 9mm. It is purely a range toy for me. The finish is beautiful, and a big reason I chose Ronin over Garrison or Range Officer. It has run flawlessly shooting ball ammo. The combat sights are not as precise as the Range Officer target sights by a large margin, but I'm sure they are faster to pick up. I was also really disappointed with the trigger. After talking to people more versed in 1911s, it seems that it is typical for a Springfield trigger. I was really expecting a nice smooth single action trigger, but this is a little heavy and gritty. The trigger is the only thing I'm really considering changing. View attachment 504961

Look at the side of the trigger in your photo. Follow @fieldgrade advice and then smoothe out the roughness on the trigger.

I did end up changing triggers in my Ronin, but only 'cause I like a flat face for shooting comps. I think that’s a Nighthawk trigger. I made a few other changes. 10-8 u-notch rear sight, WC low lever thumb safety, EGW extended mag release, S&A Mag well.

Same procedure. Smooth up everything that’s sliding on the trigger. This blaster has a new home with someone else on the forum now.

I used to be dead-set against a 1911 in 9mm ("What would John M. Browning think?!? ,lol), but have since grown interested in them. Especially the Wilsons.

But I think if I decided to go that way (single-action, single-stack 9mm), I'd look into the Sig P210 Carry. I'm a big 210 fan.
Jmb would be annoyed the army would not just use 38 acp

I keep saying my next 1911 will be a 38Super but I end up talking myself out of it. I got a bud down in SC that has a metric S#it ton of 38super brass and bullets that he would love to sell me, cheap. LGS sells a lot of guns new and used and said dont bring them a Super to sell because it wont. 38Super race guns were there shiz nitz back in the day. I had one and sold it like a fool. 38Super can be comparably loaded to 357 mass and velocity.

The wife has a Springfield, loaded target, stainless that she really likes. Flawless running. Not 1 failure of any type. I’ve also owned a couple RIA 9mm also great shooters.

The recoil on a 9mm 1911 messes with my head. I find it hard to switch between the chamberings. I’ve also had more issues getting 9mm 1911’s to run well. So I’ve relegated 1911’s to 45auto only. None of this is generally applicable just my mileage.

I have a SA EMP 4" 2 tone that has never missed a beat with ball ammo IIRC. Some of the crazy HP ammo has created some feed issues though. It eats lots and lots and lots and lots of round nose in any weight.

I have a double stack 1911 in 9,40,45. I love shooting the 9mm. So smooth and can hold about 20 rounds with an extended base n the magazine. 4E3CCCA3-0528-4753-9EB7-4C8AF31FFCEB.jpeg

How difficult and or expensive are those double stack 9mm mags to get?
The original Para mags are getting a little harder to find. Mecgar makes some Remington purchased Para so they make some and also rock island makes a double stack as well.

Held a Ronin full size 45 todau and it was beautiful. Took all i could do to walk out of there without it. Still cant decide between the ronin and garrison and 9mm vs 45

I might be able to help your friend in his time of urgent need. Let me know if he’s open to selling outside the family so to speak.

I finally made a decision and listed my Trojan. Debated and went back and forth but couldn't see a need for the Trojan anymore so tossed it up earlier. Will make someone happy.

Great blasters. I tried to buy one right after they stopped making them. Couldn’t be found anywhere after Dawson sold the last of their inventory at $1500 apiece.

I’d give yours a look if I hadn’t scratched that 1911 in 9mm itch about seven different ways a few years ago. Plus I’m spending all my “allowance" on motorcycles and motorcycle parts these days.

Wow Dawson was selling them for $1500?!? My price is pretty good then with all the mags. LOL I was wanting to make it fair for buyer and seller.

I looked at your ad. I think it’s fair, with the wear and such.

I saw one in very similar condition and configuration sell on GB for $995. Your price FTF is in line. GLWS

I happen to like the 1911 platform so I bought a Ronin last month for a possible EDC. It is light and compact, weighing in at 24 oz. empty. It has a 9+1 magazine capacity and many features usually found in guns that have aftermarket add-ons. You get a combat safety, a steel guide rod, beveled mag well, a bull barrel and a a 3-dot sighting system with fiber optic front sights skeletonized trigger, D ring hammer and the list goes on. I was initially disappointed when I first fired the Ronin because it constantly jammed for the first 75 rounds. The slide and frame are tightly fitted. After racking the slide back and easing it forward 250 times and dry-firing it, I took it apart cleaned and used the lube provided with the gun. My second session was much better. 100 rounds and only 2 jams. I figure after 500 cycles, it will be ready to be in my EDC rotation. It is a beautiful little gun with nice would grips. The double recoil springs and bull barrel make it pleasant to shoot and the muzzle flip is neglible. I like it. Palmetto State Armory had it on sale for $448 and with my 5% military discount, it was a bargain. My advice is..GO FOR IT! Give it some TLC and it will reciprocate.

I’ve got a 10mm Ronin on order. Can’t wait for it to arrive.

Well i shot 50 rds thru it today and shoots so good and sof but was having issues with slide not fully closing. Any ideas?

I’ve had this issue of not going fully into battery on more than one 1911 in 9mm.

The gun needs to be broken in. Springfield, which I’m a fan of, does not fit them that tightly together, which is good in my opinion, but 1911’s in 9mm can be a good deal more finicky than that same platform in .45acp.

You are running a lighter recoil spring that is trying to strip rounds off a tightly packed 9 or 10 round magazine. If you ever tried to unload a 9 or 10 round fully loaded 9mm 1911 mag you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Be sure the gun is well lubricated, and plan to run 500-600 through it to get it limbered up. Download your mags by one round, too.

I was wondering if it was the magazine that came with it ii, i may try a wilson next but i did notice it was a little better as it got down to 5-6 rounds in magazine. I did fire 5 rounds of speer gold dot +p 124 grain ammo with no problem
Thanks

That hotter ammo made it run better.

And they are sensitive to the mags.

9mm is an ever so slightly tapered cartridge. My experience is the top round in the mag likes to walk out about 1/8th of an inch if you don’t keep an eye on them before loading which tends to exacerbate issues with loading quicky with gusto, like when shooting in a match on the clock, which I did with all my 1911’s in 9mm.

The only universal problem I have encountered with the 9mm on a 1911 platform is when performing a tactical reload, which is removing a half-spent magazine to replace it with one that is topped off. What occurs is that the top round in the half-spent magazine has edged forward from the prior recoils and strips itself away, sometimes dropping out of the mag well and sometimes not. The Springfield Ronin EMP3 was supposedly designed from the magazine well and grip first to avoid this problem. It is still there on my gun. I solved it by feeding the Ronin the Israeli manufactured IMI 124 grain die-cut round which is about a quarter inch shorter in overall height so that it will not protrude forward enough from prior recoils to strip off the top round against the feed ramp on a tactical reload.

Didn't see anyone mention Saccato in this thread, but I love my Staccato C2. I'd also like to snag a Staccato P at some point!

Took the barrel of the garrison and put a live round into the extractor and was able to hit the slide with my hand and shake it and the round would not fall out. I had to remove it by band. But not sure how tight the extractor should be

a few things to check:

-Ammo. Is it in spec? ideally you have a gage but if not remove the barrel and drop rounds in the chamber. they should slide in without effort.
-Extractor. In my experience a prime suspect. I have added pics of how to inspect for 45 acp but the principal is the same.
Hope this helps.
