I've never owned a suppressor, and have never shot a suppressor. I over the past few days have been thinking about getting one and doing a little reading on it. I would like to stay under $1k total so under $800 for the can. At this price point am I better off getting a dedicated can. Or will it be possible to get a can that will work on multiple hosts. I would like the main host to be a AR9 pistol with 7inch barrel or so. I was looking at the sico harvester Evo, it's in my price range. Will work with the AR 16in 556 I already have that has the asr 3 prong mount. But it doesn't say anything about being pistol rated. And for 556 it says rated down to 16 in barrel

Well…your first problem is considering a .30 can for a .355 projectile. 😎

…and that’s why you don’t see any discussion about it being “pistol rated”.

I see. The Deadair Wolfman is a little over budget but seems it would work. Any other suggestions that would work for both 5.56 and 9mm.

Several options. Personally, I wouldn’t do it. Do-it-all cans seem like a good idea, but you’re always better off buying something meant to do a job.

Silencerco Omega 36M is an option, as long as you don’t need <10” barrel for 5.56 or <16” for .308. It’ll work with the ASR mounts.

I think Griffin just released their Bushwhacker 36 as well. I have a Bushwhacker 46 for a larger caliber thumper AR, but would work for multiple platforms. It’s a nice can with many attachment options. I agree with @BigWaylon that a “do it all” will “do all“ as far as calibers go, but usually aren’t the best at suppressing “all”.

I agree that do-all cans are generally not the best choice. You should probably consider at least one can dedicated to pistol cartridges and another to rifle cartridges.

Since you say you have no experience I feel the need to point out that rifles are less loud suppressed, not quiet. On the other hand you can make a 9mm AR sound about like a paint ball gun. I think that is where the fun is. Suppressed rifles can offer significant tactical advantages but for fun on the range suppressed pistol cartridges are a lot more fun. YMMV.

…and I would highly encourage you to find somebody local that has some cans and let you experience it before spending a dime.

Plenty of members here in your neck of the woods that should be able to help.

What about a Rex MG7 358? That was the first can I bought last year. Very reasonable price and I've shot it on everything from my Glock 19 to my AR10. It's dedicated to a Stribog PCC now that I have other cans but it is a pretty good one to start with.

I will try to get up with my neighbor see if he will let me shoot his. I'm pretty sure he has 1 or 2. Though not sure he's willing to share. But if anyone else comes across this local to zebulon n wouldn't mind me shooting theirs just let me know.
