Lucked up on 2 single shots from my fiance's grandfather that passed away several years ago. I am looking for any history on the guns and advice on cleaning them up. I have not had many older "collector" firearms so maybe this could serve as advice for others as well.

Both of these were in his "workshop" away from the rest of his firearm collection. Man, I wish I would have been around when he was alive. His collection went to a close friend of his containing a lot of older military firearms. I believe the sale price was close to $15k for the entire collection. The "friend" still hasn't came to collect the cannon yet.

Anyways we found these trying to clean up around his workshop and I was able to bring them home. Both of these had surface rust on the actions and barrels and some pitting on the outside of the barrels. Both bores are extremely shiny with sharp lands in the .22 rifle. The actions on each of these are tight and I would have no reservations about shooting either of them due to condition.

These images were taken after wiping these down quite vigorously with an oily rag. It helped pull off the majority of the surface rust. Do these stay out for display or do they get set in the safe for safekeeping?

Great looking pair. I'd probably show them off. I like the crate also. Was that his or did you already have that?

The crate was his also. I have gotten some other of his antiques as well but these were the first firearms. Here is a picture of some of the other stuff that came back with me that day. Notice the surface rust on these 2 when they first made it here.

Most of the other military collectibles he had, were sold to a couple of his friends as well. It was impressive before they started thinning it out. Close to 30 different milsurp bayonets, helmets, uniforms, patches, you name it and he collected it. He told his wife that he wanted his toys/collections to be enjoyed, not to sit around and go to the bad.
