Can anybody suggest such an item? My wife has arthritis in her hands (and every place else). She has trouble pulling the trigger on a J22 or Ruger LCP II. Can anybody suggest a 22 pocket pistol on which the trigger could be lightened? I've thought about something like a Baby Browning in 25acp but is has been decades since I've handled a 25. Please don't offer suggestions of other calibers since 22 is her limit. Most appreciate any replies.

Th trouble with a Baby Browning is, it’s (relatively) hard to rack, she’d need to carry it with a round chambered, and the safety is awkward. The Beretta suggested above, while not as slim, is a better choice. With tip-up barrel no need to rack (just cock hammer) and the safety is easier to manipulate.

Thankyou to both of you. I'll try to get my hands on one. My wife wanted to go to the LGS to try some out. Had a hell of a time convincing her they wouldn't let her pull the trigger especially on a 22.

Maybe a taurus pt22, which is similar to the berretta. It's DAO with I think a 7lb pull from factory. Not sure if it can be modified but I believe the one my mom had the trigger got smoother and a little lighter after 200 rounds or so

How about going to a range that rents a calibur and you can try all of the models they have. I did this with my wife to see what she was happy with.

There are some excellent, light trigger 22 pistols that are too big to pocket. Just how small does it need to be? Could she carry the Glock that's in 22? The Ruger Mk series and the Browning Bucksmart are great but they sure aren't small.

I'd say try the Ppk but the first shot is going to be a bear.

The SA mode of the Ruger SR22 is about 3 lbs. I'd be happy to let her try mine, you're not far and dry fire on this model is OK.

Two issues: It's not a huge pistol, but, it is not a pocket gun either. And, not sure if she can cock the hammer to get to single action.

The LCP II trigger is rated 5.5 lbs. and you mention that wasn't workable.

What weight trigger is acceptable?

You've certainly ruled out *almost* all the revolvers, the lightest DA pull for 22lr is 8 lbs.

The Bobcat hammer is at least that much effort to cock.

And you said no larger calibers; OK. That rules out the obvous choice of a S&W EZ in .380ACP (currently on sale at Cabela's).

Have you looked at this one?

If you try one and like it, I have a SR22 long slide I’ll sell you. I’d say it’s the easiest shooter I’ve experienced. I won’t be disappointed to hang onto it either!

Did Browning make a 3/4 size 1911 in 22, or was that in 380acp?

They did make a 1911-22, about 7/8 size and a very nice pistol it was. I had one. Very slim and light, single action, but not a pocket gun for normal pockets. Spendy too.

Fix her 22. I have used these kits in several LCP but they do make one for the 22. My mom loved the changes to her 380

First, and clinically, my wife’s osteoporosis in her wrists makes arthritis a walk in the park.

She was happy with the G44 I got her but, on an even more elderly friends advice, she tried and regularly carries her S&W M&P 22 Compact. It is a dream come true; light trigger pull, NO problems racking slide, not ammo picky and extra mags are both available and do not break the bank.

Second, I know lotsa older women who carry off the body in their purses but, actually in their pocket? That’s a hard one to swallow …

Look at the S&W M&P 22 Compact, trust me.

I'm seriously considering the Glock 44 as you mentioned. It's larger than I'd like but if she can handle it I'd go with it.

I'll do that.

Did a little more checking on the Bobcat 21A mechanics.
Looked at multiple references to get the numbers, including this great review:

As a flip-up and the right size, it does seem like it would 'fill the bill.'
I kinda want one, myself, for some reason. Still do.

The double-action trigger runs between 8 and 10 pounds; meaning, the hammer charge is that much as well.
However, a person with arthritis might find well it easier to cock the hammer than pull the trigger at the same weight.

The single-action trigger runs around 3 pounds, lighter than a stock LCP II.

Another +1 on the Bobcat line for an out of the box light SA trigger and reliability. Presonally, i would not give a loved one a modified handgun and bet their life on it, but that's just me.
