Any recommendations for a .22 pistol suppressor? A buddy recommended a sparrow. Comments welcomed

You want to buy one without any paralysis by analysis? Order a Dead Air Mask right now.

Wanna actually discuss it for a bit? Lots of options out there.

Mask
Phantom 22
Oculus
Nyx
TD22
Mustang
Halcyon
Vidar
Mod-F4
MG22
El Camino
Switchback
Hydra

The Sparrow is the only can I own that I regret buying.

@BigWaylon in keeping with how people do other types of classes I think you should do a suppressor education and ordering class. The class possibly could help people understand the process and restrictions involved and for those interested walk them through the process of actually purchasing.
All for a fee.

Set it up. I’ll be there. I’d offer Zoom, but it’s way more fun to fondle the product…especially if we could step outside and shoot some to show the real world sounds. 😁

If I had the knowledge you do on the subject I probably would. I feel certain several sponsors would like the idea also, besides all the folks that are uncertain and intimidated by the thought of the restrictions and procedures involved in the process of ordering and owning a silencer.
Establish then Franchise,
your welcome 😁👍
Can't wait to see you on shark tank.

You don’t need any of the knowledge…I’ll bring that with me. You just need to get the bodies in the seats. And somewhere to shoot. 😎

I purchased a dead air mask 22 cal today as a matter of fact.
And it is hard to make a choice just by the reviews.
I went with the mask because of the stainless baffles and lack of first round pop, but I was told today that first round pop wasn't a real thing but I still went with the mask

I have 2 Dead Air Masks and will be ordering another in the next week or so. If an Oculus is in stock, I might change my mind and try one of those for the ability of the short configuration. Otherwise, they are very similar.

I’d be very hesitant to take any advice from whoever said that.

Mask .22 without hesitation. I love mine so much that I’ve thought about another…

@S4f

Here’s a real world example. You can’t tell me the first suppressed shot isn’t different from the rest of the mag. (There’s a fake can on there for the 5 unsuppressed shot, because the barrel is several inches shorter than the rail)

Here’s another, shooting 147gr 9mm.

I have a FREE with purchase 22LR silencer that is very short / small and light 100% titanium suppressor. On sub-sonic ammo out of a lever action 18" barrel rifle for a Ruger Mark IV 22/45 LITE and Sig P322 with standard velocity ammo, it is quiet enough that I shoot them without hearing protection. I am amazed at how quiet it is. I do not think it is quiet enough on an M&P 15-22 rifle or pistol. The titanium make me think it will hold up well. I am just getting into owning suppressors so do not know anywhere near as much as BigWaylon but my very limited experience make me think you will be happy with most 22LR suppressors if they are easy to clean.

FRP isn’t as much of an issue with supersonic ammo, as you’re probably wearing ear pro anyway (I wear it no matter what I’m shooting…at least some foam plugs). But here’s some data from me shooting some F1 cans vs commercial cans at Rugged several years ago. First shot is louder than the rest in almost every case, using 55gr AE 5.56.

First round in both videos is definitely louder
You don't know how much I appreciate the help @BigWaylon
You try to research the subject but some times it's confusing
Then you get bad info from someone who acts like they know what they're talking about but dont.
So today I just had to hope I made the right decision and now after comments from a couple of members I more comfortable with my decision
OP sorry for the hijack

You’re good…

It’s why I gave him the Mask as his don’t-want-to-think-about-it solution. 🤓

Very timely, lol. I am looking at gett my first next week and have it down to the Mask or the Oculus. I believe it will live on a 10/22 80% of the time, maybe on a pistol for shits and grins

Your ears burning? Was just talking about you. 🤣

my first can was the Mask (per @BigWaylon recommendation) purchased in January. It’s got several thousand rounds through it now. I have no complaints and would highly recommend. Mainly used it on a CZ bolt gun, 10-22 charger and 22-45.

It’s an absolute blast to shoot. With CCI SV on the 22-45 it’s about as loud as a red rider. With CCI Quiet it’s movie grade silent.

Thunder Beast 22 Take Down, or Dead Air Mask are my recommendations. I have a Huntertown Arms 22 Ti and love it. However, they went out of business (kills the lifetime warranty :(). Looking to make another 22 can purchase soon and decided on the Thunder Beast 22 Take Down, but having trouble finding one in stock (as of last week). So I may go with the Dead Air Mask if I can not find the Thunder Beast 22 Take Down in stock soon.

Don't get a sealed can, get one you can take apart yourself and clean. Or, if that is not an option, get one that is all titanium so you can at least clean it with "the dip" or some other method. And lastly, go with a reputable manufacturer.

I have a Tac-Sol Cascade (cheap, average performance - not great but not bad either) that I bought years ago. It is a sealed can and the body is aluminum. It took me 6 or 7 years of heavy shooting, but eventually, it leaded up enough that it needed professional servicing. Luckily, the manufacturer offered to "clean" it for free. So, I sent it back to them and they completely replaced the baffle stack free of charge and sent it back. That was nice of them, but if I had to do it all over again, I'd definitely get one that is self-serviceable.

I may be able to do that at my range. What time frame are you looking at? I can run it by the board on the next meeting if you’d like.

I’m not looking to do it. If somebody else wanted it done, I’d be glad to participate.

My only 22 can is a Warlock II. It was an impulse buy at less than $200 I just added it in with my first rifle suppressor a couple years ago. There are better options out there at higher price point but if you’re only concerned with 22lr and want a light suppressor it’s a good option imo.

Is the issue with the sparrow just weight?i see its stainless steel and that seems silly for just a 22lr
You really need to SS or Ti if you want to shoot 22 mag.
Yes it is a little heavy but not much. Also easy to clean and with SS you can use different cleaners.
Aluminum can be harder to clean and you really need to watch what you use. Also not sure if any all Aluminum cans will take 22 mag or 5.7 like a SS or Ti can will.

I like mine.

Really? I've shot lots of 9mm on short barrels with nothing but 6061 I've even vented gas right after the chamber. I don't think 22 mag would be an issue. With a steel blast baffle you can get away with a lot though. I've played around making aluminum cans just beacuse it's so hard to ignore how light it is. I've also put aluminum tubes on rifle cans and it was fine. I'm sure you'll get less life though.

If I recall the guy was asking about 22 cans to buy and also ask about the Sparrow.

We were not talking about building them or at least I was not. My comments were based on his question.

The only Aluminum can that SS carries rated for 22 mag is the GM22. Its 7075 T6.
It will not handle the 5.7 like the SS cans do. The Sparrow (SS) is rated for 22 mag and 5.7.
That was one he ask about. The Mask another being ask about is SS and Ti. Rated the same.

Wonder what you know that some of the major Mfgs don't know?

Based on your thoughts everyone should be building a 22 mag suppressor in 6061 or 7075. I would buy it. It would be lighter, maybe.
