22LR Rifle Conversion Kits

I shoot a CMMG conversion in my rifles on occasion, hundreds of rounds at a time, and have not had an issue. I do have a friend who ruptured a gas tube after many thousands or rounds of 22 when he switched back to full caliber.

I've had both the conversion and the dedicated upper from CMMG and I'd go with the dedicated upper. Less nasty 22 goop in my 5.56 for one thing. Tons of fun too.

I did this. It was kind of fun. The accuracy was terrible with the 1:7 twist. Only use plated ammo. I ended up selling it to my friend who built a dedicated 22 pistol.

I have a Brownels/CMMG that shoots great. You just have to shoot a few 5.56 rounds thru it every couple hundred 22lr rounds to keep the build up out of the gas tube. They will stop up the gas tube after too many 22 rounds. I know this for a fact, lol.
Depending on your barrel and your ammo, it might or might not be very accurate. Mine shoots acurate enough for steel plate satisfaction.

I’ve got an old one from Spikes Tactical that does nothing but jam. But I still use it every now and then. I just run some .223 thru it afterwards to clear out the gas tube it’s never caused a problem in centerfire function.

Late to the game, but I went dedicated upper simply because I shoot suppressed. The extra carbon fouling in the gas system pushed me to dedicated.

Used to have a surplus M261 .22LR conversion kit with 5 10rd magazine inserts. Also picked up a BlackDog 30 rd mag for it. Army used to use them for units that were limited to indoor or 25m ranges with the M16A1. The M16A1 had a rifling of 1:12 which is close to the 1:14 of the .22LR. I used to use it in my 1:12 XM177E1 clone that I built in 87'. Would work decently for training as I taught my boys when they were 3-5 yo on that XM177E1 with its collapsible 2 position stock. Did try it on my issue M4A1 and did work on semi but not auto. With the XM177E1 conversion in the gun, standard velocity 40 gr LRN would hit golf balls at 20 yds.

Still have the manual.

As much as I dislike Classic they had them for 155. With the 3 mags. Came to just over 176 with their tax and shipping. Don’t know if it’s still in stock but I said to hell with it and ordered one. Was gonna order some mags for my other 2 anyways

Yep out of stock. They still have one with one ten round mag for the same price. 👎

I lucked up on a CMMG kit with one mag for 75, fun and has functioned well, but not as accurate as a dedicated 22 upper
