Any suggestions on powders/ bullets? Looking at 117gr for hunting. Really looking forward to see what this Winchester70 featherweight will do.

Cool cartridge. I’ve used the 117 Sierra Game King a good bit in my 25-06. Kills deer like lightning.
115 Nosler Ballistic Tip is a good one as is 115 Partition. Quarter bore fan.
Thanks Lee! I bet that Partition will put a hurting on a deer. Soon as I ca find some brass I should be in business to make some test rounds. Found some interlocks to try out as well.

I can't speak to the 257 Roberts but I do hunt with a wildcat 25-223 in a AR15. I shoot a lighter bullet and I've taken a deer with the 87 grain Speer Hot-Cor inside of 50 yds. I also load the Barnes 80 TTSX based on what others have done with this caliber. The 25-223, loaded with the TTSX, has taken pigs, deer, and even a cow Elk.

Barnes offers the TTSX & TSX up to 100 grains, being lead free they're long for their weight, might be worth a look.

Those are some impressive results for a lighter bullet! Planning on keeping mine to white tails no more than 300 yards if that. Thanks for sharing your information 👍

My dad reloaded for his .257. He passed away in 1993, probably last hunted in 1968-69. I'm guessing reloading recipes haven't changed much over the years for this caliber, dad used a 100 grain most often. He took white tail, mule deer and pronghorn with his Model 70 which I now have.

Below is his info I copied that he had written on paper that was taped to some ammo boxes which were old enough that they fell apart. I wanted to preserve his records.

Man that’s so cool! Thanks for sharing. I’m really looking forward to seeing what she’ll do on the bench and then will definitely try it out on a deer here shortly.
