Been reloading pistol for a few years so I have some seat time. This will be my first attemp at rifle reloading and am getting confusing(to me) powder data. For H110 with a 220 gr SIE HPBT, 1.8 twist, COL 2.260, it shows starting "Null" and max 9.2. The Sierra page shows 220 gr HPBT, 10" twist or faster and COAL is 2.230, starting at 10.1 and max is 12.2. The starting of one is higher than the max of the other. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

H110 and heavy bullets I assume you are going for subs? You will want a chrono to tune your load for subsonic velocity. There’s no magic recipe that works for everyone but I would wager 9-10 ish grains will be close to the final answer.

H110/W296 is my preferred powder for 110-125gr supers. If I’m going over 150gr, I’d go with Lil Gun or better yet 1680 for subs.

I don’t do much with subs but when I do it’s w Lil Gun and 208-220gr, only because I didn’t have 1680 until more recently.

I have notes that 9-10gr H110 works with 208gr bullets but I haven’t tried it personally.

off the top of my head and not having my notes with me, my 300blk sub load is 9.6ish grains of H110 under a 220gr serria RNFB. clocks in around 1k FPS on a 16” barrel, haven’t chronoed it with the suppressed 7.5 barrel

grouped minute of acceptable for its purpose

9.5 to just over 10 grains sounds about right for heavy subs. IIRC 300 Blackout uses magnum handgun powder for supersonic and sub loads. A 110 grain bullet would used around 17 grains or so, and subs were around 9.5 to 10 grains.

I generally use H110 or Win 296 for that cartridge. From my experience with subs....... get as close as you can to supersonic velocity without exceeding it for the most consistent sub loads. If your charge it too weak, say less than 1000 fps, you can get into some serious vertical stringing problems. The Sierra Data stated something about don't go any less than xxxx charge.

I don’t have any 300 BO experience. I’m just wondering if anyone has tried VV N110. My experience in handgun loads is that N110 is quieter and less flash (unsuppressed) and is more tolerant than H110 of being downloaded.

Thank you all for the info, I feel more comfortable now. I should have included it was for subsonic rounds in a 7.5 " barrel. I went to Blue Border Monday and picked up some 1680 and decided not to get the Lil'Gun even though it was on my list. Has anyone used Alliant Power Pro 300-mp?

There is also a caveat for H110, not to go 1

I use N110 for 300 blackout. It is easier to charge the tubular N110 IMO than H110., which is very tiny granules.

I use N110 in 300 blakout. The N110 is easier for me to charge with the small tubular shapes than the very fineH110. It is advertised to be very clean burning. But it is pricey stuff, probably why it WA availble!

Bought some to try, but haven't yet. Supposed to be very close to H110, but just slightly slower and without the sudden pressure peak. IIRC it's like .5-1.0gr more to match velocities with H110, but I'd have to look that up.

I'm not a big fan of N110 for subs in this cartridge but I've loaded a variety of projectiles with it.

The 225 Hornady Match with VV N110 @ 8.5 grains averaged 1058 FPS out of a 9" barrel. This is the only bullet I've loaded with N110 that is comparable to a Sierra 220MK.

1680 will always cycle subs in an AR15 but I think IMR 4227 sounds better.

I only shoot subs out of my 8.5". I use shooters world blackout, which is very similar to CFE black. 11gr gets me right at 1050fps with Berry's plated 220gr, which are specifically designed for sub blackout loads.

And speaking of those bullets, you should really look into them. They're way cheaper, and those sierra bullets are designed for way super velocities. If you're using it for home defense I'd use the Hornady 190gr sub-x. Gavintoobe (YouTube channel) did a great comparison of them vs a 220gr super bullet with ballistic gel.

I have loaded and shot thousands of nosler 220 gr hpbt rounds with H110. 8.5 grains and coal 2.255 shooting suppressed out of a 8 inch barrel. I tried lil gun and 1680, both seemed alot louder with no noticeable difference in performance. H110 works great for my 110gr hunting rounds too, so it's a perfect dual purpose powder for me.

I noticed the N110 took less charge for the same velocity, so it works out not to be that much more expensive to shoot, at least the last time I priced it (pre-covid).

Have done all kinds of 300blk. I wouldn't shoot 220 with h110. 1680 would be my go to there. I almost use those two exclusively h110 for super 1680 for sub.
I'll try 1680 (other thread), because H110 was all over the place for my 217s and 240s.
