Hey y'all. :D As many of you have probably noticed in the BST, I am going through the process of paring down my firearm, accessories and ammo collection solely both to guns I shoot regularly and handloading components for loads that I have already developed, as I am satisfied with my current results and I've got other things I need to focus on than further load development. For the most part, the last little bit of components I have are the following:

220 of these funny-based 170gr .308 bullets
500 of these 173gr US .mil .30cal FMJ Match bullets

The former (left side of picture below) I frankly have no idea what they are. Do you? I'd love to know. The latter (right side of picture below) I know are US military match bullets for use in CMP-style matches that I admit it's extremely unlikely I will take part in anytime soon, and think these should go to someone who actively shoots those matches and already has a load developed for this bullet. Personally my .308win rifle really sings with 175gr SMKs, so I'd rather have 720 more of those than these bullets for the sake of ease and consistency. I just can't find how much these bullets are actually worth these days.

The bottom line is this:
What are those funny-based bullets?
How much do each of these normally sell for?
What's a fair trade ratio to offer them up in trade for 175gr Sierra MatchKings?

Thank you in advance for your thoughts and suggestions. :)

Try this: https://bulletin.accurateshooter.co...5gr-rebated-boat-tail-bullet-from-david-tubb/

I got some of these at the last Asheville gun show, unfortunately, I've not loaded any of them. But I did notice, the is not much of the bullet in the case neck on 30-06 with a max OAL cartridge length. Lupua made these and I think the 180gr were more popular, probably because of the 'bullet in the case' issue.
I got mine very cheap. Like $20 for "200+" which had 300pcs in the bag.

Left look like Lapua, Scenar L, D46 style, or one of the lock base bullets. Got a bunch of .30 caliber bullets even the " moly coated "
The ones on the right, look like you said match bullets probably in the 170gr+ range. Widener's a long time ago was selling what those look like by the bag full. Plus some LC 68 demil 30.06 brass.
As far as the Lapua to Sierra trade if they are the "good one" Scenar L maybe 3 Sierra to 2 Lapua. But...and I say but if the weight is similar to the Sierra, if me I'd keep the Lapua, just a thought.
Use Lapua brass ( both type primer pockets ) and bullets in my bolt guns with Bartlein barrels and a Hart. Shoot Bergers in the bolts and the Kreiger barreled M1A's. Shoot some Sierra 168, 175..

Just some thoughts

Fair enough. My specific load is Federal 308win case, 175gr SMK, CCI BR-2, 44.4gr Varget. That really makes this gun group well, after extensive testing. I'm just leery of using something different in case it messes up the load or doesn't do as well, and wastes components in the process that could be used to get the ones I know work well for me. Looking up the D46 bullets though, it does look like that could be the answer. The shape is definitely right.

I understand where your coming from, why waste components when working up a new load, especially at todays prices. Got rid of Vargot long ago, IMR-4064, 8208, N133, N135. Depending on which rifle / platform, Lapua brass both small primer and large primer, Bergers, Lapua, Sierra, for the M1A's, LC match 77-79 brass with some Lapua LP, brass, the only Federal brass is the Nickel Match Brass from decades ago, bought a bunch, brand new. CCI-200's from years ago, yep gotz a few k laying around.
For the 338LM its Bergers and maybe some Lapua, Sierra..in that order .. wish Berger would of released their 50 cal bullet from what I had been reading long ago, it sure would of been accurate...oh well
So once again if you got a load that works stick with it...
Don't reload that much right now, got a "temp setup" still going through things, like a kid, what's in this box? Hmmm.. didnt know I had these or that

Exactly. They might be great, they might not. But that's time and energy and components put into guesswork when I'm already pretty happy with where I'm at. All the powders you listed and use are great too. I think it varies by the gun, conditions and shooter preference - Varget just happened to be what worked best for me here, but I've had other cartridges that worked better with other powders. For instance, my 30-30 does 'okay' with Varget but it absolutely shoots like a dream using Hodgdon LeverEvolution. I'm truly amazed how good groups I can get out of a lever action rifle using that powder with Hornady 160gr FTX bullets. I still need to try my 100 pieces of Lapua 308win brass I got, haha. If they do well y'all will probably see an ad from me along the lines of "will trade mixed headstamp 308 brass for Lapua at rates significantly in your favor!" or some such, lol. Everyone is saying how awesome the Lapua brass is so I'm looking forward to getting out there with it. Just gotta load the ammo up to do it with. Maybe do a few tenths of a grain in either direction from my base load to see if Federal versus Lapua brass changes the ideal powder charge any.

Very nice. I still need to try Bergers, and I think something like 338LM is a great cartridge to start messing with them in. Right now I have to stay small, but when I start having the money to afford those bigger, more impressive, more capable long range magnum cartridges is where I really want to step up my components game. Right now it's just a case of it being more prudent to put money towards flight school so I can start making pilot money so I can start better affording those nicer rifles before I start trying to buy them on my current budget. But that time will hopefully come for me, one day. For now 308win will just have to do, but I do want to shoot 338LM with you and others one day. I've only heard great things about Berger bullets, either way.

That's awesome that you're finding stuff you forgot you had. It's kind of like Christmas Day all over again, except nobody actually spent any money and you get to live out old times again. :D

Sounds good, priorities first, goals.

When you have been reloading for 50 plhs years, you aquire "lots" of things, try a lot of things. Same with firearms.
Don't really know how many different calibers / cartridges I do reload for, never really counted.
Will say one thing with the current prices of components, one does have to think, when developing loads.
Basically stick with what works. Powders can add up pretty quickly. If I started maybe 5 years ago I would definitely re-think things.
