AHHHHHHHHH

Sorry just needed to vent a bit. I decided to assemble the lower for my new AR pistol this afternoon. Well to say it went bad is an understatement! I somehow cross threaded the grip screw and offed up the threads in the lower. I'm not sure wtf I did it started just fine and then all of a sudden stopped. I backed it up a bit and tried again still no go. So I removed the grip and what do ya know the first 1/8th of a inch is offed up. I'm so frustrated I just put it all in a box and will mess with it later. Its not like this is the first one I've ever put together I guess I just messed up. Anyways rant over!

Take the screw and run it in from the Inside. It’ll fix the threads probably

I’ll try that. Had to just stop for a bit before I lost my mind lol
The screw may have a buggered/burred thread and causing the damage. Use a tap with oil, start from the other end if possible. When chased make sure you can run the screw all the way in with your fingers with the grip off. When you start the screw with the grip, turn it in reverse until you feel it bump in a bit, that's where the threads start.

Well I went and took a break. Went to the smoke pit in Salisbury for supper. Came home and ran a different grip screw in from the top. It straightened the threads out enough to get it together. Thanks for the tips guys I was just really frustrated earlier lol

I have a tap in my tool box just in case this happens again it’s happened once so it’s possible it could happen again.
What thread pitch is it? I think I'll add a tap to my box as well....

Yeah same here. Oh and btw I’ll NEVER use a flat head screw again.

Those things should be outlawed. One reason I buy magpul grips. They have an Allen head screw

I may have a tap that will fix it, other than going to Calibers tomorrow afternoon I don't have anything going on so I'm sure we can get it fixed Sunday.

Thanks Clinton I got them straightened last night. I’d love to know what tap I’d need though for future mess ups lol

Nice. Interesting it is a Aero lower. I had this happen with a Ballistic Advantage lower. Multiple grip screws would only go in cross threaded. Had to send it back to BA and they swapped it out.

There’s your problem. Those flathead screws are the absolute worst! I bought like 20 black oxide Allen screws for a few bucks and have used them on every build I’ve done for myself and friends. You can usually find them at a local Ace or TrueValue.

Yeah IDK why BCM had one in the package with the grip they should know they suck. I'll be buying me a few dz of those allen heat screws for future uses.

Aero makes BA stuff. Aero owns BA or they are both own by a bigger company. Basically they are under the same umbrella.

Right, that's why I said it was interesting that OP had the issue with an Aero lower when I had the same issue with a BA lower.
