Long time reloader but just recently started reloading 38 S&W and 38/200 for a couple old S&Ws (pre-Victory M&P and Regulation Police) and an Enfield No 2.
Curiously, I am experiencing a LOT of pierced primers with the Smiths. I haven't tried the Enfield yet (I need to). Weird though. I've never seen this before. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the relatively low pressure loads and headspace. What do I need to be looking at?
I don't think the loads are too hot. I tried to stick to standard m&p spec loads. There is no excessive flattening. I have tried Aguila, Rem 1-1/2, and Win WSPP primers and see it with all of them (less with Win). Firing pin noses look OK.
I am using the following loads:
38 S&W - 148 WC seated outside the case (1.075 OAL), 2.3gr Bullseye
38/200 - 200 LRN (1.175 OAL), 2.5gr W231
Both loads yield about 650fps in these revolvers.
Any ideas?
FYI Hoping to add an I-frame snub some day, so if anybody has one...
